RUGBY league international Gareth Raynor has avoided jail after he admitted racially abusing a doorman and attempting to gouge his eyes out at a Blackpool lap dancing club.
The black Hull FC winger also launched a flying rugby tackle at the bouncer after he was asked to leave the nightspot, Preston Crown Court heard.
Judge Edward Slinger said it was only references from his club, which described him as a "fantastic role model for the black and ethnic community'', that saved him from an immediate custodial term. continues here
