Thousands of people have attended an event in central London marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The third annual Eid in the Square was held in Trafalgar Square on Saturday from 1255 BST.
Organised by the mayor Boris Johnson and Muslim groups, the event featured Asian music, food and goods, and displays on Islam.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting observed by millions of Muslims across the world.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson told the crowd present he was proud of his Islamic heritage.
"You may or may not know this or believe it, but exactly 100 years ago, in 1908, my father's father's father came to south London.
"He was a Muslim and he knew the Koran off by heart in Arabic," he said.
"He would be absolutely amazed to discover that his great-grandson had become mayor of London. I am proud of that."
He also called for Londoners to follow the message of Eid, a time of unity and giving, in the wake of the financial crisis.
"I think in this city, now more than ever, we will need that spirit of communal responsibility to deal with the consequences of the financial crisis," he said. continues here
We can be so proud, so utterly overjoyed, to have Boris Johnson as the mayor of our capitol city at least it used to be our capitol city, now it is given over to the others, those not of us, those who should not be here. Even Eid ul-Fitr itself is not of us, a tradition of another land of another people, why I ask, must we let this continue, the destruction of us and the rise of them, why must we bow and scrape our way out of existence.
We have nowhere else, nowhere else to go, these are our lands the home of our people for a millennia or more, yet they covet all we have, whilst our rulers lead us to ruin, have ever a people stood back and let others take them, let others replace them. What then of our leaders, what had jovial Boris to say, this man who leads our capitol that chased a red from office and sits now upon his throne, what had he to say.
Did he offend us, we indigenous, we un-represented, we maligned, we despised, hated and loathed, we dismissed, we un-needed, we out-breed, or did he defend us, does he defend us, or like others of his ilk, does he herald in our doom, betray us, condemn us and finally help kill us, lets then read his words, spoken to that multitude, that throng present, that alien crowd.
The mayor of our capitol city had this to say, that he was, “proud of his Islamic heritage” and then "You may or may not know this or believe it, but exactly 100 years ago, in 1908, my father's father's father came to south London.
"He was a Muslim and he knew the Koran off by heart in Arabic," he said.
"He would be absolutely amazed to discover that his great-grandson had become mayor of London. I am proud of that."
Oh but Boris we are amazed to that you have become mayor of London, you of foreign stock, you so proud of an alien heritage, moreover we are surprised that our capitol city has been given over to those also of foreign stock, that our land has been given over to those of foreign stock and surprised also that our Europe has been given over to those of foreign stock, we can only hope and pray that not before too long, the people shall claim back their heritage and expel the alien, the parasite and the treacherous, until that day, we must persevere, must gather our forces for the final battle, our final stand. 14
