A sixth MP Tony Lloyd (Labour, Manchester Central) has signed the Hope Not Hate petition.
The MPs have joined the growing protest against the EDL’s presence in the city this weekend.
The Unity Statement has also been signed by North West TUC, Show the Red Card to Racism, the Muslim Council of Britain, Manchester Unison Community and Mental Health branch, Oldham NUT, members of the Muslim Jewish Forum, the Independent Manchester United Supporters’ Association, trade unionists, church leaders and community groups.
The EDL, which has links to the BNP, has already held demonstrations in other parts of the country in an attempt to terrorise and intimidate Muslim and Asian people.
A protest rally against the EDL presence in Manchester starts in Piccadilly Gardens at 12 noon on Saturday, October 10th. Musicians who support Love Music Hate Racism will play during the rally.
Unite Against Fascism has called on protestors to occupy Piccadilly Gardens for the afternoon to prevent the EDL from demonstrating there. continues here
