British diplomat murdered in Jamaica home

A British diplomat has been murdered at his home in Jamaica in a suspected homophobic attack.

John Terry, 65, was found lying on his bed with a cord round his neck and severe head injuries.

Jamaican police are investigating whether the honorary consul for the British High Commission was in a homosexual relationship.

Officers said there was no sign of a break-in at the four-bedroom house in rural Mount Carey, near Montego Bay, and do not think robbery was a motive.

Mr Terry was honorary consul on the Caribbean island for 13 years, representing the High Commission at official functions.

He was last seen on Tuesday night after leaving the luxury Half Moon Bay Hotel in Montego Bay, where he was a maintenance supervisor.

He was found on Wednesday morning by his cleaner, with a handwritten note on his body describing him as a 'batty man', local slang for a homosexual.

A detective said: 'We have reports that he has been seen with another man. It is likely he could have known his killer.'

Foreign Secretary David Miliband last night said he was 'deeply saddened', adding: 'Honorary consuls play a valuable role overseas and this was especially true of John.' continues here

Catholic leader takes stand on adverts

Vincent Nichols, the newly-designated Archbishop of Westminster, will urge Roman Catholics today to oppose new plans to allow abortion services to advertise on radio and television. 

In a clear indication that the 63-year-old is more than willing to pick political fights and tackle controversial issues when he takes over as the leader of Catholics in England and Wales next month, Archbishop Nichols is asking lay members to contest a new initiative which would relax rules on how pregnancy services and condoms can be advertised. As The Independent revealed last month, Britain's advertising watchdogs are considering allowing television ads for abortion under the biggest shake-up of regulations for 50 years. 

The Broadcasting Committee on Advertising Practice (BCAP), which covers TV and radio, and the Committee on Advertising Practice (CAP) have proposed allowing pregnancy services to advertise during prime-time television and to allow condoms to be advertised before the 9pm watershed. 

Aware that the issue will be controversial, particularly within religious communities, the watchdogs have launched a three-month consultation. 

The rule changes coincide with new government efforts to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies in Britain which, at 42 per 1,000 under-18s, has the highest rate in Europe. But Archbishop Nichols has urged Catholics to make sure they speak out against it. In his first major policy speech since the Pope designated him the new Archbishop of Westminster last week, he said: "I would appeal to Catholics to respond to the consultation and two of the principles put forward are that advertisements should be truthful and tasteful.

"I doubt that any intended adverts about abortion would be fully truthful and tell the whole truth of the effects of abortion on a woman's life." He also attacked the latest condom adverts, calling them "demeaning" because they promoted "casual sex on the street corner" and "drunken sex". 

"I do not think these things do anything to genuinely help young people to understand themselves in their own dignity and in the proper meaning of what human sexuality is about," he said.

The Catholic Church forbids the use of condoms. The adverts warn against unprotected sex by showing couples wearing clothing bearing the names of sexually transmitted infections. The NHS and prominent sexual health charities support the ads. 

Marie Stopes International, Britain's biggest independent pregnancy advisory service, has said it may consider paying for prime-time adverts and last night it criticised Archbishop Nichols' stance on abortion adverts. A spokesperson said: "Advertising condoms and pregnancy advice services could work as a tool to educate young people to be sexually responsible when they are discovering sex. Earlier advertising of condoms and pregnancy advisory services will be a step forward in meeting this aim and may contribute to lowering high rates of teenage pregnancy."

The Terrence Higgins Trust, the country's largest HIV and sexual health charity, said the Church was out of touch with young people.

"The Archbishop may not like the current condom adverts but then he's not exactly our target audience," said Lisa Power, head of policy at the trust.

Coroner hits out at abortion clinic after 15-year-old dies following termination

A 15-year-old girl died five days after having an abortion because of a blunder which meant she never received antibiotics prescribed to her, an inquest has heard.

Schoolgirl Alesha Thomas probably would have survived had she taken the medication to combat infection, but tragically she was struck down by toxic shock syndrome.

A coroner slammed the sexual health organisation Marie Stopes International for procedural failings behind the tragedy and it could face legal action.

Due to inefficient practices at the clinic in Leeds it was not uncommon for patients to leave without being given the medication prescribed to them by the doctor, the inquest heard.

When Alesha was taken ill after the termination, nurses at the clinic failed to check her computer file that would have shown the antibiotics had never been handed out.

The harrowing story of the teenage schoolgirl's sudden death in July 2007 was detailed at Huddersfield Coroner's Court.

Alesha was a 'healthy and fit adolescent' from Huddersfield who confided in her mother Rose Bent that she was pregnant in June 2007.

After discussing her options, they chose an abortion at the Marie Stopes International clinic in Leeds.

Two weeks later, when Alesha was just over 15 weeks into the pregnancy, the 25-minute procedure was performed successfully by gynaecologist Dr Peter Paku.

One hour and 20 minutes after the operation the doctor issued an electronic prescription for Alesha to be given a course of the antibiotic Doxycycline, to prevent infection.

The doctor did not realise that Alesha had been discharged 45 minutes after the operation and was no longer at the clinic.

The inquest heard that Marie Stopes had no system in place which meant nurses would re-check a patient's notes after being discharged to make sure all instructions had been followed.

Dr Paku said patients leaving without their medication was a regular problem at the family planning clinic.

'It has happened many times. Prescriptions would be forgotten many times and we would have to make arrangements,' he said.

It was the first case he had heard in the UK of someone had contracting the infection after an abortion.

Three days after the operation, Alesha's concerned mother called the clinic's helpline, a call centre based in Manchester, and told a nurse that her daughter was suffering stomach cramps and heavy bleeding.

The nurse advised she give her daughter Ibuprofen.

She spoke to a nurse at the clinic again, after she was told her daughter's tests for the sexually transmitted disease Chlamydia had come back positive and was advised to ring her GP for antibiotics.

It does not appear that any of the nurses ever referred to Alesha's online notes - which would have highlighted the earlier failure to take antibiotics.

Just five days after the operation Alesha became extremely ill. 

She couldn't move her legs, had glazed eyes and was unresponsive. She was rushed to hospital but suffered a heart attack on the way to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on July 11.

The rare bacterial infection toxic shock syndrome was responsible for the heart attack, the inquest was told. 

Recording a narrative verdict Coroner Roger Whittaker said if she had taken the drugs prescribed to her 'the balance of probability suggests she would have been more able to survive than die, which makes it all the more hard for her family in these circumstances.'

The coroner told the court he would be writing to Marie Stopes International in the hope that they might develop better systems to prevent patients leaving without their medication.

He said: 'There was no system in place for the review after the visiting clinician had left and I believe there should have been.'

The case will also be reported to the Lord Chancellor's Department.

A spokesman for Marie Stopes International said all its staff were 'deeply saddened' by Alesha's tragic death.

'Our first concern is always the support and care of our clients and we aim to ensure that they receive the highest possible standards of advice, treatment and aftercare.  

'We will look closely at the Coroner’s comments and take further steps, as appropriate, to address any areas of concern that have been identified.'

More than 100,000 people go to the organisation's network of clinics every year for advice and care. Under current advertised prices the abortion procedure would have cost around £700.  continues here

Pensioner beheaded 'after dispute over noise' as neighbour is held on suspicion of murder

A pensioner was beheaded on his own doorstep apparently after a disagreement over noise. 

Patrick McGee, 63, was ambushed in his front garden as he returned home from a meeting. 

The attacker cut off his head, then picked it up and dumped it in a nearby wheelie bin. The alarm was raised at around 9.20pm on Monday night after police were called and officers found the victim's decapitated head in a wheelie bin. A man was arrested at the scene. Senior police sources last night confirmed that they were investigating theories that Mr McGee had been involved in a fracas over anti-social levels of noise at a nearby house in Crumpsall, Manchester. 
A police source said: 'A neighbour has a young family and we think Mr McGee may have complained about noise levels in the house and there was a heated argument.'

The source added: 'The killer lay in wait for the pensioner and ambushed him as he arrived home. 

'By all accounts Mr McGee was a hard-working and friendly member of the community. It is a terrible, terrible crime and has left everyone stunned.' 

Police were last night questioning a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder. 

A regular churchgoer, Mr McGee was a former joiner at the North Manchester General Hospital and a representative with the public service union Unison. 

He was single, had lived on the same street all his life and had spent years looking after his late mother and father John and Iris McGee.

Christine McDonough, a local resident and friend, said: 'Patrick was a real gentleman, a proper neighbour who was well-liked by everyone who came across him. He was always very polite and friendly and took an active interest in the community, helping people wherever he could. 

'I just can't believe that someone would do such a thing in a nice suburban street like this. It is like something out of a horror film.' 

Last night it also emerged that Mr McGee may have been involved in a scuffle in the street a few days earlier. 

Jack Higgins, 65, a neighbour said: 'Paddy came to a meeting of the residents' association at Crumpsall Methodist Church between 7pm and 8pm and I spoke to him there. 

'I noticed cuts and bruises on his hands and he had nasty scratch marks down his cheek but he wouldn't say how he had come by them. 

'Apparently he had been found in the street earlier with blood on him. He left the meeting in his car and it seems he never managed to get through his front door. 

'It is just awful to think about and everyone round here is in shock.' 

Pauline Cribbin, 66, a retired hospital worker who had known Mr McGee for 36 years, said: 'He was a very nice, quiet gentleman and he worked at the hospital all his life. Paddy would never harm anyone, and I can't think of anyone who would do this to him.'  continues here

Scrap qualifying conditions for abortion and let women decide, say academics

Britain’s 40-year-old abortion law flouts the legal principles that underpin modern medical practice, 85 academic lawyers and ethicists say today.

In a letter to The Times they urge MPs to remove the “qualifying conditions” on abortion that require women to obtain signed permission from two doctors, calling it “an anomaly”.

Modern medical practice makes clear that individuals are entitled to make their own healthcare decisions, even if they appear wrong or irrational to others, they say.

The courts have upheld that a woman can refuse a Caesarean section even if it is essential to save her life or that of her unborn baby.

The intervention of the academics comes as MPs prepare to vote on a series of amendments to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill on October 29 that could change where abortions are performed and by whom.

Although individual academic lawyers and ethicists have commented on the issue of abortion before, never have so many settled on a single view or called on MPs to act. That could be influential on wavering MPs in the run-up to next Wednesday’s vote.

MPs have tabled numerous amendments for debate, including reducing to one the number of doctors required to give permission for an abortion. Another seeks to broaden the range of premises and healthcare staff who can perform early abortions, which use drugs and do not require surgery. They can currently be carried out only in clinics licensed by the Health Secretary and by doctors. “Pro-life” MPs have tabled amendments to restrict the grounds for late abortion because of foetal impairment, and for a compulsory cooling-off period before a termination for counselling.

In their letter the academics say that the current restrictions on where abortions are carried out are no longer justified given medical advances, and also suggest that trained nurses should be allowed to carry out the procedure.

The licensed premises rule, and the requirement that only a doctor can perform a termination, is not dictated by patient safety and good medical practice and should also be reformed, they say.

MPs had been due to debate these issues in July as part of the later stages of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.

In May, during earlier stages of the same Bill, they voted to keep the upper time limit on abortions at 24 weeks by a comfortable majority.

The views of medical experts were thought to have been influential on MPs in that vote. The British Medical Association, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Royal College of Nurses and the British Association of Perinatal Medicine all said that there had been no improvement in viability of babies born at 22 and 23 weeks and called for the limit to remain at 24 weeks. continues here

Murdered teenager Hannah Foster made despairing 999 call after abduction

A kidnapped teenage girl dialled 999 in an attempt to escape from her attacker but was cut off by the emergency services. She was then raped and strangled, a jury heard yesterday.

After being bundled into a van, Hannah Foster, 17, an A-level student who wanted to become a doctor, dialled the number in the hope that the operator would hear her conversation with her abductor. But because the operator could not hear what was being said, the system automatically disconnected her.

Hannah’s parents, Trevor, 57, an auditor for British Gas, and Hilary, 51, a former nurse, and her sister, Sarah, 20, were in Winchester Crown Court as Nicholas Haggan, QC, opened the prosecution case in what he said would be a distressing trial.

Mr Haggan said that DNA evidence would help to prove that Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, 40, a sandwich delivery driver, murdered Hannah. “He snatched her from the street. He drove off with her in his van. He found somewhere quiet and he raped her. He then strangled her and dumped her body,” Mr Haggan said. “When he thought he might get caught, he fled to India.”

Mr Haggan said that Hannah disappeared in March 2003 while walking home from a bus stop after a Friday night out with friends.

“At 11pm that evening, Hannah managed to use her mobile phone to contact the emergency services,” he said. “She was unable to speak to the operator. It’s quite obvious from the recording that she was in a moving vehicle. In that vehicle with her was a man, and that man was speaking to her in a heavily accented voice.

“Hannah probably thought that the operator would listen to the conversation and work out that she was being held against her will.”

She would not have known that there was a system to prevent accidentally dialled emergency calls from blocking up the system, he added.

Experts who analysed the recording were able to make out Hannah pretending her name was Sarah and the man saying something like: “Hold your head down, please.”

Hannah’s body was discovered two days later by a 14-year-old boy in Allington Lane, West End, near Southampton. It was lying among brambles about 15ft from the road. A postmortem examination showed that she had been strangled. Although she was fully dressed, her clothing was described as “dishevelled”. She had scratches on her legs, and there were traces of semen.

It is claimed that on the same day Mr Kohli was in tears as he told a friend that he needed to go to India to see his ill mother. The friend noticed a red mark under the man’s eye, which Mr Kohli is said to have claimed he got in a fight with two men. Despite Mr Kohli threatening to kill himself if his friend did not lend him money for the flight, the friend refused, the prosecution said.

The next day, Hannah’s handbag and phone were found at a recycling centre in Southsea, Portsmouth. Mr Kohli flew to India from Heathrow the following day.

A few days later, Mr Kohli’s supervisor, James Dennis, saw a recording of theCrimewatchprogramme that featured an appeal about Hannah’s murder, and contacted police. Mr Kohli’s sandwich delivery van was seized and semen stains and traces of Hannah’s blood were discovered inside, Mr Haggan said.

CCTV and Hannah’s telephone records were said to place the two together at the time of the murder.

Mr Kohli was extradited to Britain in July last year, and a DNA sample from him matched the semen found at the crime scene, Mr Haggan said. continues here

Vince Weiguang Li Decapitates Tim McLean Aboard Canadian Greyhound Bus

Passengers aboard a Canadian Greyhound bus witnessed a heinous crime late on Wednesday night. They say one passenger stabbed another to death and decapitated him.

Vince Weiguang Li, 40, was arrested and charged with the second degree murder of Tim McLean, 22.

Witnesses say that Vince Weiguang Li pulled out a large knife and began stabbing Tim McLean who was sitting next to him and sleeping. Passengers screamed in terror, the bus driver pulled over in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and the passengers escaped the bus before Vince Weiguang Li hurt anyone else. Passengers managed to not let Li escape and the bus driver had disabled the bus' motor so Li could not drive away. When passengers entered the bus to try and rescue the victim, they saw that Vince Weiguang Li had cut Tim McLean's head off and he started coming after them with his knife. Police arrived at the scene and managed to capture Li as he attempted to jump out of a window. continues here

Pubs to be forced to search customers for knives

The Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, will today announce a series of measures to tackle knife crime, following a spate of stabbings described as "shocking and tragic" by Gordon Brown. 


The plan was finalised after the Prime Minister met the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, at Chequers yesterday to discuss the crisis. Ms Smith has written to police chief constables to highlight their powers under the Violent Crime Reduction Act to crack down on licensed premises that could be at the centre of unruly and criminal behaviour. 

The police are to force pubs and clubs associated with knives or guns to search people on entry, under threat of losing their licences. Trading standards officers are being told to step up test purchasing to stop sales of knives to under-18s.

People convicted of carrying a knife will be made to visit A&E departments to see the impact of stab wounds, and to meet families of victims, as well as those imprisoned for knife crime. Youth forums will be extended to encourage young people to stay away from knives. 

The new measures will focus on knife hotspots in London, the West Midlands, Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Essex. 

Ms Smith said: "I am absolutely shocked at the tragic and senseless loss of life we have seen recently. I want to reassure everyone that the Government is taking the issue of knife crime very seriously." She added: "We must tackle this violence head-on. That is why I am today outlining further tough measures, coupled with early intervention and support for parents." 

The Home Secretary has pledged to "increase the visibility of sentencing" for knife-related crime, in an attempt to reassure the public that the courts are coming down hard on offenders. But she rejected calls from David Cameron to have all knife offenders sent to jail, saying: "It is simplistic and wrong to pretend that prison is an easy answer." continues here

Two teenagers 'laughed like clowns' as they punched, kicked and stabbed stranger to death

Two drunken teenagers who laughed 'like clowns' as they punched, kicked and stamped a stranger to death were today facing life behind bars.

Friends Dennis Hind, 18, and 19-year-old Tutu Kabalika picked on hapless Stephen Miller, 45, as they stumbled home from a party.

The pair, who had downed vodka, beer and taken cocaine rained down a string of blows on the victim's head as he lay defenceless on the ground.

The helpless victim pleaded for his life repeatedly shouting 'please stop', but could do nothing to fend off the vicious assault.

Ignoring the screams, Kabalika was seen to land a double-footed stamp on Mr Miller's prone body.

Hind then followed up with a powerful kick to his head as the two killers laughed at their victim.

The victim was out getting some fresh air because he could not sleep when he was savagely attacked. 

They goaded the fatally injured man shouting: 'Come on, get up, get up.'  

When neighbours, who had been woken by the sound of the sickening attack, tried to intervene Kabalika told them: 'I don't think he's had enough.'  

Mr Miller died in hospital a few hours after the attack. He suffered 'multiple fractures to the body' including a broken shoulder, crushed neck, 15 broken ribs and a broken jaw.

He suffered severe brain injuries from the assault and never regained consciousness.

Today Hind and Kabalika were both convicted of murder by a jury at the Old Bailey.

They will return to be sentenced next month.

Judge David Paget QC said: 'There is only one sentence I can pass.'  

The court heard Mr Miller stepped out of his flat around 2.30am to get some air because an ear condition made it difficult for him to sleep.  

He had spent the night watching television with his flatmate in Middle Park Avenue, Eltham, south London, on August 24 last year.

Further down the street Hind and Kabalika were leaving a friend's party.

They bought a 'large quantity of beer and vodka' and were already drunk when they arrived.

Hinds made another trip to the off-licence during the night to buy another bottle of vodka and both men were seen snorting cocaine.

As they left Kabalika was seen being sick in a toilet.

Prosecutor Martin Hicks QC said the killers were like a 'pack of hyenas.'  

'When they left they were both uninjured and had but a short walk to the grassy area where the confrontation with Mr Miller took place.

'We may never know who started the confrontation or why. These two men had never met Mr Miller before, but what we do know is that other than the defendants no one else was involved.

'What is plain is that as it developed there came a time when Mr Miller was on the floor defenceless and in a sufficient state of defencelessness for a considerable period of time.

'As Mr Miller lay on a grass verge unable to defend himself Hinds and Kabalika repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped upon his head and his body.

'During that attack the victim was heard to plead for his attackers to stop, but he sustained multiple serious injuries and sadly died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head and his neck.'  
One witness Patricia McLenahan said: 'They seemed to be quite amused by this, like clowns.'  continues here

The times newspaper, has at one time or another been described as the newspaper of record, I have to say that its commentary concerning this tragic case is both deceiving and calculated. To my knowledge there is only one online book of condolence and no-where does it describe Mr Brown as, “the first nationalist victim of Islamic jihad against Great Britain”. Although comments made by contributors may contain this sentiment, I should know this, because the online book of condolence is not a BNP initiative, it is however, part of a wider independent nationalist initiative and I was asked to pen the introduction. Any death is distressing at the hands of the invader; however in this case it is doubly so as Mr Brown was one of the few, a nationalist striving to save his country. We would ask all nationalists, of whichever party to leave comments, in memory of Mr Brown. In the hope that it may be of some comfort to those he left behind, as nationalists our fight continues, rest in peace Mr Brown."

Of course the times in this article praise the murderer one Habib Khan as, “a pillar of his local mosque”, whereas they allude to the victim as a thug. I must make one thing clear, any death, any murder is wrong, especially because of ones race however, for the media in this country, or what passes as the media, this mode of thinking is not in play.On many occasions they will either omit facts or twist words, so as to prevent the indigenous whites of this country knowing the full facts concerning, anti-white murders, attacks and rapes, they will claim that this action is to maintain “community relations”, should the reverse happen, such as the tragic death of Amar Aslam, then they will, as some did in this case rush to declare it a racist attack, never once stopping to think of their precious community relations.

As nationalists we would hope that the online book of condolence has given some comfort to the family of Mr Brown, which is the primary reason it was set up, we independent nationalists have monitored this book of condolence since its creation, realising in doing so the immense hate directed at the white community by non-whites and by our political opponents, as they endeavoured persistently to post really quite appalling messages. We have had no choice but to monitor the book of condolence, given such hate filled messages, we would like to think that we have prevented their public viewing and would like at this juncture to thank the splendid people involved. Whilst we independent nationalists may differ somewhat in ideological terms with the BNP we do stand united, against anti-white behaviours, in this instance we have had no choice but to publicise some hateful messages individual’s endeavoured to post, to Mr Browns book of condolence, after long deliberation the decision was made to publicise the most recent, in the hope that others may realise the abject hate some non-white individuals and the far left display towards whites. It must be remembered that, the book of condolence is exactly that and for individuals and organisations to attack it in such a way is both deplorable and spurs us on ever further. We believe that in this case that justice was not done, it was not even seen to be done, and it is of course, merely a re-underlining of why we must continue to fight for our right to exist and for our children’s future. Of course if Robbo is reading this in Harrogate or indeed Mohammed in Libya, we have this to say, you are scum nothing more nothing less, a family have lost a husband and a father and you and others use it to attack political opponents.

You cannot stop us of course, by your actions, nationalism is an innate force, honed over thousands of years, we merely wait for our time, for a new age of enlightenment, until then rant and rave, curse, mutter and shout your silly slogans, we laugh at you. To the family of Mr Brown, we are truly sorry that you failed to get the justice you deserve, we hope that over time your pain may lessen, Mr Browns passing will never be forgotten by nationalists both in this country and abroad.
