A hospital had to be shut down for six hours after a fight broke out following a street murder.

Relatives of the victim, Sanjay Alexander, attacked his suspected killer when the man turned up with knife wounds at the hospital where Sanjay had been treated.

Two police officers who were already there dealing with the stabbing, were injured as they tried to break up the fight.

Patients and staff at Ealing Hospital, in West London, fled as the family of Mr Alexander, a 21-year-old student, set on the 28-year-old man outside A&E at 2pm on Thursday.

Police had to drag them away from the suspect before sealing off the hospital.

A policewoman suffered a broken rib and another officer was injured as they tried to break up the fracas.

Dozens more officers were called to the scene to control the situation.

Incoming patients, apart from maternity cases, were diverted to other hospitals until the police cordon was lifted at around 8pm.

Mr Alexander was fatally wounded following a row shortly after 1pm on Thursday in nearby Hayes.

Locals said they believed he had been stabbed up to eight times.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

A short time later, the suspected killer arrived needing treatment for knife injuries believed to have been sustained in the fatal stabbing of Mr Alexander.

After being pulled away from Mr Alexander's family, the man was transferred to another hospital by ambulance.

He was treated for his injuries and arrested in connection with the stabbing before being released into police custody yesterday.

Four others, two men and two women, have been arrested over Mr Alexander's murder. continues here
