Three British tourists were viciously beaten and two of them raped in a horrific two-hour ordeal on holiday in Turkey.

The women, sisters aged 18 and 20, and their 19-year-old girl friend, were attacked by three men after meeting at a bar.

The girls got into a car with them at 2am last Friday after they agreed to drop them off at their hotel.

But instead they were taken to a remote part of town where the men demanded sex.

When the girls refused, they were viciously beaten and two were raped over two hours, police said.

They suffered severe bruising to their eyes, face, body and legs during the attack.

The girls were eventually abandoned close to the three-star Esra Hotel in Altinkum, where they were staying, and the men fled in the car. The girls alerted police and were taken to hospital to be examined.

They said they had been befriended by the group earlier during their holiday.

Police managed to find two of the accused, both aged 16, from pictures taken on a digital camera the previous evening.

The suspects, identified only by their initials as H.E. and E.K, appeared for questioning by the public prosecutor at Altinkum court on Saturday.

They were later released on bail while police inquiries continue. A third man, 29, wanted for questioning, is still on the run.

Police confirmed that the suspect had taken the car used in the attack back to a rental company in Izmir.

The tourists, whose names have not been released, have declined any help from British Consulate officials.

It is unclear whether they were travelling alone or with family. continues here
