THE English Defence League stepped forward yesterday in a show of strength against critics.

The Daily Star obtained these pictures of the group which claims to defend British values against Muslim extremists.

Around 20 men posed in uniforms, but kept their faces hidden under balaclavas for fear of reprisals.

The group, which included several black members, burned a swastika flag to give an apparent message that they oppose Nazis and racists as much as al-Qaida hate-mongers.

The masked men evoked memories of past pictures of paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland.

The EDL formed in response to Muslim protesters who taunted and abused British soldiers at a homecoming parade in Luton in March.

Its demos saw violent clashes in the Bedfordshire town and Birmingham – with more protests planned.

After opponents, including Communities Minister John Denham, branded them far-right they have produced this flag-burning film to deny the claims.

An EDL spokesman said: “We are not racist. We’ve made this film with our black members, and we also welcome any moderate Muslims.

“Our message is also for the BNP, because a few right-wing extremists have unfortunately tried tagging on to us when they weren’t welcome.

“If we see them and they give Nazi salutes we will kick them out in no uncertain terms.

“Unfortunately we have to cover our faces because we are labelled as something
which we are not.

“We all live in Muslim neighbourhoods where our faces would be recognised.

“We agree there’s no place for extremism or racism, yet this Government lets extremists like Anjem Choudary freely stir people up with inflammatory outbursts.

“We want to show the likes of Choudary their days are numbered. Why don’t those attacking us join us in demanding Muslim extremists are kicked out?”

CITY PREPARES FOR RACE RIOT

A RACIAL battle of Trafalgar is set to rage today with white Brits and Muslims warring on London’s streets.

Scores of Islamic followers are due to march to Trafalgar Square, where they plan to hold a rally in support of oppressed Palestinians.

But up to 500 white Brits, many from far right organisations, have vowed to descend on the annual Al Quds Day event.

The English Defence League, who have sparked a series of riots with Asian youths in recent weeks, are among those hell-bent on disrupting the rally.

And yesterday Islamic extremist Anjem Choudhary stoked tension ahead of the clash by delivering a personal challenge to the EDL.

Laying down the gauntlet to the group, he promised to continue in his fight to get Sharia law implemented in the UK and the flag of Islam “flying high over 10 Downing Street”Tommy Robinson from the EDL said of the Al Quds Day demonstration: “Every year they chant terrorist slogans and they have the black flag of al-Qaida flying in Trafalgar Square.

“When British soldiers are dying, we can not allow people to move through the streets promoting this organisation. It’s an insult to our soldiers.

“English people and British people have a right to defend our towns and cities."

The groups Stop The Islamisation Of Europe and March For England will join the counter-demonstration by the EDL, whose emergence Communities Secretary John Denham has compared to the rise of fascism in the 1930s. More than 15 Muslim organisations are due to march from Marble Arch to Trafalgar Square, where Islamic speakers will preach.

Raza Kazim from the Islamic Human Rights Commission said: “When incitement to hatred is going on from the other side, our intention is not to respond – but obviously I cannot guarantee that no one is going to react.  continues here

EDITOR'S Comment: You see this is the Rubicon that true nationalists cannot cross, we quite simply cannot and indeed should not oppose a pro-Palestinian march, to do so plays completely to a Zionist agenda and paradoxically leads to the continued slaughter of “our boys”, in a war not in our interest. So I ask what would you do, if your children were slaughtered, your home destroyed and your community forced to live in appalling conditions, at one stage here and now in the 21st century, inhabitants of Gaza were forced to live for some time without electricity because Israel had refused fuel supplies. Of course many well-fired-up angry young whites will simply not care, “their pakis”, which is exactly the reaction pro-Zionists and anti-western Mohammedans require. It is a win-win situation as both get exactly what it needs and whitey loses.

Still true nationalism seems to be just a voice in the wilderness, a little heard voice here at home where it needs to be heard, so we have the really quite remarkable situation whereby working class white boys are used twice by Zion in the first instance to serve in HMAF and fight in needless wars and in the second for the pro-Zionist cause upon our streets, yet we true nationalists have no choice, for all the knowledge ,the realisation of game-plan, those are our people attacked and so we must defend, again pawns in the game but at least aware pawns. I would hope that our young men turn away from this today, that commonsense prevails but it is a forlorn hope and true nationalism suffers yet another defeat, where the hell are the leaders, the voices, where, tell them the truth don’t let them suffer attack and be used.

The English Defence League — A Statement from the BNP’s National Organiser

The British National Party has declared the “English Defence League” a proscribed organisation and it will be a disciplinary offence for any party member to be involved with that group.

Making the announcement today in a special organiser’s bulletin circulated within the party, national organiser Eddy Butler said that although the proscription had been ordered a while ago, it was being made public today because the controlled media continues to lie about the BNP and the EDL.

“Time and time again the lying media has linked the BNP with the EDL’s activities,” said Mr Butler.

“Most recently the media and the BBC Eastern regional service, in particular, lost no time in blaming the BNP when Muslim rioters attacked police in Luton.

“The BBC coverage of that event specifically said that the BNP had planned to march through Luton, and this was why the Muslims had rioted,” he said.

“This is, of course, an utter lie. The BNP does not march in the streets but rather campaigns in an ordinary democratic fashion in elections, door-to-door canvassing and leafleting,” Mr Butler continued.

“It is completely malicious and unwarranted to blame the supposed activities of organisations such as the EDL on the BNP, when there is no common ground between the two groups at all.”

The EDL has, in fact, gone out of its way to distance itself from the BNP, while the party has no interest in the sort of confrontation in which the EDL seems to seek.

In his official statement, Mr Butler said the proscription of the EDL meant that it “will be a disciplinary offence for British National Party members to associate or participate in any event or activity organised by the English Defence League or hold membership of the English Defence League.

“The reasons for this proscription are that the English Defence League, through its activities, brings nationalist and patriotic politics into disrepute. If the English Defence League is not instigated by and its activities are not encouraged by the state (which it quite possibly is), then the track record of this organisation shows that it is run by people who will only bring discredit and probable arrest for anyone who attends its events. continues here

EDITOR'S Note: Well done to the BNP for proscribing this organisation, an organisation that endeavours to provoke and run, it would seem to both me and other nationalists, that this group aids only the state, its malevolent orthodoxy and represents dire threat to young impressionable whites, far, far better for whites to stand behind the banner of Britain’s primary upcoming party, better to fight for freedom under a true banner, that banner the National Front. I make no bones about the fact that the NF is growing, that nationalists from all walks of life now gravitate, because we must, there is nothing else, towards the National Front, one hopes that one day this growing party will become Britain’s foremost defender.

In my time my politics have been considered somewhat too hard-line for the National Front, my abject refusal to bow to Zion and my recognition that Jewry split brothers under an orange flag. Yet we are now at the eleventh hour, facing calamitous times and it is my belief that it is only the National Front, that offer contestation, of late I have personally noted many nationalists turning to the NF, one hopes that this will continue and we will once again, forge ahead for truth and indeed race and nation. Certainly the British National Party offer little, I believe they have had their time, time spent whittling down nationalism until it is wholly changed, they have believed for some time, in a rather snobbish way, that it is they that are the voice of nationalism, I say it is the people, the activists of that and indeed any party.

Recently the National Front held out the hand of friendship, offering to stand with the British National Party over the Membership issue, I as an independent nationalist disagreed with such an overture, realising that the BNP would see standing with the Front as an injurious act. I believe strongly that the National Front have no need of the BNP, neither its Tory-nationalism nor indeed its constant belittlement, it is I believe time for the National Front to come out of the shadows and reclaim its rightful place and I believe that it may be upon course to do so. Groups such as the EDL and UBA are merely Zionist front-groups, mechanisms to channel justified anger and temper its edge, I believe this to be true of the BNP also, although on a much larger scale, so for true nationalists eyes turn to the re-emerging Front, in the earnest hope that we are not let down again, by another group/organisation.

Guardian rejects anti-semitism accusation

A new website was launched this week with the aim of monitoring antisemitism on the Guardian newspaper’s Comment is Free blog.

CiF Watch will function primarily as a blog which discusses content on Comment is Free that it considers to be anti-Jewish.

The anonymous founder of the New York-based site, who insisted on only being known by the pseudonym “Hawkeye”, said the site aimed “to challenge the mainstream In the Guardian’s eyes it is perfectly fine to give a platform to numerous contributors to CiF that support the dissolution of Israel as a Jewish state and its replacement with a bi-national state.
“To engage in such discourse is antisemitic under the EU monitoring committee working definition of antisemitism, because it denies the Jewish people the right to self-determination. orthodoxy of the extreme left that the Jewish state is a racist endeavour — which is a recurrent theme in Comment is Free”.

He added: “Besides the fact that CiF features a long list of anti-Zionists, including many Jewish anti-Zionists, its comment threads are full of vile, antisemitic statements. If you ever comment on one of those threads as a pro-Israel supporter, a lot of the time your comments get deleted.”

It was, he said, “a mistake to assume that CiF is a UK website. Its reach is international in nature and it has been the recipient of numerous web awards, ahead of the likes of New York Times online. Moreover, many contributors hail from countries abroad.”

“Hawkeye” complained: “The problem is that there are no boundaries to the commentary made about Israel. In the Guardian’s eyes it is perfectly fine to give a platform to numerous contributors to CiF that support the dissolution of Israel as a Jewish state and its replacement with a bi-national state.

“To engage in such discourse is antisemitic under the EU monitoring committee working definition of antisemitism, because it denies the Jewish people the right to self-determination. What is most troubling is that it is this kind of discourse that is being normalised in the British press, and when one points this out, one gets accused of shutting down open debate when we’re doing nothing of the sort.”

A spokesman for the Guardian rejected claims of antisemitism on the site. He said: “Comment is Free has always carried a wide range of different opinions on the Israel/Palestine conflict. We reject completely the charge of antisemitism.

“We therefore welcome CiF Watch’s support for open and honest debate about the conflict and its acknowledgment that this can include criticism of Israel’s policies.

“While we aim to allow as free an expression of views as possible, we do not tolerate any hate speech, and our moderators will delete comments which are antisemitic or Islamophobic or otherwise racist, as soon as they are reported to us or when we see them ourselves.” continues here

And there you have it of course, the charge of anti-Semitism, the ridiculous accusation that, should one criticize Israel that one by extension hates all Jews, utter poppycock, Israel is a state that was created deceitfully, that since its very inception has committed gross human rights violations, dispossessed and discriminated against a people and created much contemporary turmoil. A two state or even a bi-national state presents as loss to the Palestinians, yet it is all they can ever hope for, Israel is a nuclear armed country, possessing, in this instance, real weapons of mass destruction, how it came to be that it came to possess such weaponry, is yet again a case of deceit, betrayal and deception.

As a nationalist I hate no people, certainly I wish non-alien intervention within Europe, yet I would be a hypocrite of some magnitude, were I to advocate self-autonomy for my people and yet support a rogue state that denies such to others. Some may argue that in this regard I deny autonomy to Jewry, that by supporting the dispossessed Palestinian peoples, I at a stroke thwart any concept of a Jewish nation, this is of course wholly wrong, I merely advocate dialogue, discussion not deception, murder and conquest.

Jewry would have it that it has been a wandering “tribe” for some time, that it has by dint of circumstance been forced to wander the world, ever assailed by anti-Semites, yet much of what passes for Jewry today is not by definition Semitic, yet Ashkenazi Jews display appalling levels of discrimination towards their Sephardic brethren, it is of course even the case that origin and practice matter little over appearance and tradition, Sephardi covering many bases, of course gentiles, we, have little inclination to enter such muddy waters ,requiring only our freedom, so to further confuse this article with reference to Mizrahim, Musta'arabim or indeed many other of the group classifications within Jewry would be pointless.

It is enough here to state that prior to the creation of Israel Jews and Arabs lived in peace, today of course the problems of the east now visit our lands, our people are pawns in a game and their blood is split collaterally. Jewry is by definition not of Europe, yet this does not mean that gentiles wish it harm, desire conflict and bloodshed, far from it, nationalism recognises and indeed cherishes difference, it fights against the false orthodoxy of egalitarianism, lays into those that would promote a mono-culture and recognises the need for all to have both a home and a culture.

Yet European nationalism has been infiltrated, assailed, until nationalism itself has been changed and the few who speak out against it are considered foolish, of another age, whilst the agenda of Zionism presses on. True nationalism, will never recognise foreign influence, will never kneel to the alien, yet it will never hate for hatreds sake, Muslims have the right to exist, as indeed does the Jew, because in this fight against supranational government all races and creeds face attack. For some sixty years Zionism has shaped the world, although its influence reaches far back in time, yet it is here today that it wields power, it would seem that all governments kneel in servitude as Christendom is no more, today Islam is promoted, promoted to cause disquiet ,to augment enmity and to usher in conflict and hate. After all, once conflict breaks out will not the people beg for peace, call out for help and will not the forces of the state give it them, craft laws to save them, deny freedoms for the greater good, will not the state cradle us in its arms as we suckle upon poisoned milk.

Nationalism has the answer to enmity, the solution to problem, at its core respect, respect for all cultures and creeds, Zionism seeks global obedience, it believes that Jewry is above all, that all others must kneel to it, that it is written, that Israel shall govern the world. Some elements of Christianity believe this to, believe that the messiah can only return as chaos reigns and evil swirls and good returns to us first in that evil place, even Islam believes such, believes that the last battle, the ultimate fight between good and evil, can and must only occur in that land.

It is for this reason that Christians support Zionism, that fundamental Christianity rocks the states, that neo-conservatism, read Zionism, spans that land and the superpower is harnessed in evils name. Such rubbish, such nonsense, it is as if god requires man to err, as if god wishes blood split and man to make war with another, yet this god that they speak of, is he not benevolent one minute and almost evil the next, does not old and new testament vie for primacy, whilst the world spins in an orbit of hate. You see it is forever the goal, forever the cause, control the fate of all men, rule the world and all upon it, by force or fiction, it is nationalism that opposes that, nationalism that recognises difference and it is nationalism that is hated, undermined and lied about.

So many groups vie for supremacy when all should live in peace, true peace cannot and has not ever occurred in a multi-racial multi-group state, difference always provokes conflict, yet difference is only different in another place, in the east Muslims do not live their lives offended by western values, although the mass media and global communication is another story, no they live within their own culture amongst their fellows and who are we to oppose such. Yet here in the west their very creed provokes anger, their traditions and very strangeness jolt our sensibilities and the crafters make us rush to war, negroes, in their lands of origin face no discrimination, no bar to progression, only that which mother nature makes herself. Here, here in the west the common man would have little cause to hate, little reason to oppose should we be permitted to live amongst our own, instead of forced to live amongst others, creeds and peoples that threaten our very existence.

Instead this forced habitat, this forced realm, this kingdom of disunity is thrust upon us and we must make do, because they tell us we must, should I oppose it then I am, they say, a hater, a racist and much worse, yet if they had not chosen to change the world, to force difference to live together, if my race did not face extinction and my children a quite terrible world then I would have little reason to maintain this site, to lament my and mines fate and to oppose and oppose again evils cause. I will never succumb to Zionism, to multiculturalism, to evil, never stand by as cultures are denigrated and destroyed, as people of all races are forced to change to suit an appalling agenda, as my children’s very future is placed into the hands of madmen and fools, as they sneer at our plight and carry on regardless.

Yet I know full well that the fight is being lost, that nationalism has been terribly altered, that all organs of the current orthodoxy portray us wrong, they have taken away racialism, replaced it with the guttural racist, presented recognition of difference and indeed celebration of such as a hatred of the other, when this is a lie. If we continue to follow the course they set, continue down this terrible road, then it is not just we that shall suffer, not just the white-man, for we will be out of it, extinguished, gone, yet others shall succumb, even today terrible forces create carnage in the east and such will simply continue and no white hand shall stop it. Without whites slavery would still be openly practiced, instead of hidden away and marginalised as it is today, millions would die of hunger or disease and war would ravage the world, without whites innovation would recede, freedoms be lost and the world would be a much darker place, no pun intended.

Might would take precedence and the wishes of the few would be swept away in their blood, finances grip would be even tighter, exploitation immense and liberty a dream, for all our wrongs we have many rights, yet we are judged in a biased court, perhaps our loss to this world will be a punishment to those upon it. There is this great rush towards this new order, a step once taken that can never be undone, yet history tells us that difference can only be forced to live together under repressions wing. Can none see, do none have eyes, ears or sense, if difference must be forced to co-exist in a country, if millions must fall to achieve it then what then for a world, for a planet, for all peoples of all practices, how many must die, who must live and who must perish.

Is it wrong that I am a white nationalist that I am forced to be a white nationalist, that as a people we are so threatened, that decent men and women must rail against a corrupt and malevolent system, that in doing so we are tagged as haters, as evil-doers, as evil incarnate. Yet whilst the body-politic, the masses sway to such a hypnotic beat, as millions sit mesmerised in front of that little box, as young men die in the lands of their fathers, due to race and creed, as young women suffer rape, as drugs and crime cut swathes through our population, as evil truly stalks a people, it is its opposers that are wrong.

There is so much against nationalism and therefore by extension the people, Zionist influence is most apparent within contemporary nationalism, many spew forth pro-Israel rhetoric, trained to hate Islam above all. Tory populism has taken the reigns and races us towards defeat, yet few can see, all suffer, Jew ,gentile, men of the crescent and men of the cross, black, white, young and old, give us back our world, let us live again in peace, take your malevolent agenda and move it from the physical world of men, to again a world of hypothesise and written conjecture, do not force such upon an unwilling world.

If the Nazi had served in the SS, then he would be shot

QUENTIN Tarantino's latest film, Inglourious Basterds, may be set in an alternate universe.

But for people like Cyril Pundick, there is a ring of truth to the story of elite Jewish commandos hunting down and killing Nazis.

Mr Pundick, of Manchester, was a member of the Jewish Brigade which was formed towards the end of the Second World War - to exact revenge for the Holocaust.

The brigade had the backing of Winston Churchill, who declared: "The Jews of all races have the right to strike at the Germans as a recognisable body."

And American President Franklin Roosevelt formed the Jewish Infantry Brigade, who served with the British Army in the latter stages of the Second World War.

Born in Salford, of Polish Jewish descent, Mr Pundick originally joined the Army Service Corps in 1939 and served in Libya and North Africa for almost five year.

In 1943 he transferred to a Jewish Palestinian company, which became part of the Jewish Brigade the following year.

When Mr Pundick and his pals found a Nazi, they interrogated them.
He explained: "While this was going on, I stood outside the Nazi's house making sure their girlfriends did not interfere."Most of these boys were Jews from eastern and central Europe whose families had been killed by the Nazis and they wanted their revenge," the 90-year-old told the Jewish Telegraph.

Mr Pundick's group was stationed in Tarvisio, near Italy's border with Austria.

He was a dispatch rider and searched for Nazis in the mountains around Tarvisio with two other Jews who had lost their families in the camps.

He recalled: "I went looking for Nazis with two German Jewish boys called Bobby Ackerfeld and Hans Wald.

"Bobby was an amateur boxer and very handsome and being so good-looking, it helped him gain information from the Nazi's Italian girlfriends."

Of his time in Libya, Mr Pundick recalled: "I was part of a second armoured division which relieved a seventh armour division in Tripoli, Libya.

"This was in 1944. I noticed there were a number of vehicles with Star of Davids painted on them, which I was excited about."

Mr Pundick, who is married to Irene, found out that the vehicles belonged to a Jewish company, which later became part of the newly-formed Jewish Brigade.Information regarding the whereabouts of these killers was either gathered by torturing imprisoned Nazis or from military connections.

When Mr Pundick and his pals found a Nazi, they interrogated them.

He explained: "While this was going on, I stood outside the Nazi's house making sure their girlfriends did not interfere.

"If the Nazi had served in the SS, he would be shot, but if he had been a member of the regular army, he wouldn't be."

After the war members of the Jewish Brigade formed assassination squads in order to execute former Wehrmacht and SS officers.

Councillors split over calls to ban right wing rally in Birmingham

Calls to ban a rally against Islamic extremism planned for Birmingham next week have split the city council’s political leadership.

Tory cabinet equalities member Alan Rudge, who was due to hold talks about the event with West Midlands Police today, has “deplored” the march by the English and Welsh Defence League but stopped short of calling for the demonstration to be banned.

Liberal Democrat deputy council leader Paul Tilsley, however, fears the march through the city centre by the right-wing group and a counter-demonstration by the left-wing United Against Fascism will lead to serious trouble and wants the police to stop the event from taking place on September 5.

In an unusual development, Coun Tilsley admitted he was “holding separate conversations” with the police and would not be joining Coun Rudge at today’s meeting.

He fears a repeat of violent scenes earlier this month when the two groups clashed in Birmingham’s central shopping area, resulting in police in riot gear making 35 arrests for alleged public order offences.

Police do not have the power to ban all protests, but can ask the Home Secretary to ban a march – when protestors are moving – if they believe there is a serious risk of public disorder.

West Midlands Police have, so far, been reluctant to take such a course.

Luton has already barred the English Defence League from holding marches for three months, an example that Coun Tilsley believes Birmingham should follow.

He said: “The situation in Birmingham is potentially far more inflammatory because of the numbers of people that could be involved. Luton is a very small place compared to Birmingham.

“We have a reputation in Birmingham for getting along and existing peacefully, not for having demonstrations.”

Coun Rudge, who was unavailable for comment today, has written to all city councillors setting out his views on the demonstration.

In the letter, he said: “I deplore the demonstrations held by both the United Against Fascism and the English and Welsh Defence League.

“Demonstrations of this nature merely seek to cause disunity and conflict between and across our communities often for political gain.

“I am determined that scenes of this nature will not be repeated on our streets and I have written to West Midlands police in order that we can work together to prevent any further scenes of this nature.continues here

As a nationalist I have immense misgivings concerning the EDL, although I realise fully, that most of those involved are innocent, the EDL is not supported by nationalism generally and I believe will never be so, its origins are known, as to are its goals, it does not work for our greater good. Most nationalist events are treated very differently, marches are banned, protestors stopped and interrogated none of this seems to happen in this case, further, nationalist protests are contested by all politicians from whichever party, whilst this is not, I believe firmly that this is an orchestrated campaign and on that basis it offers little for our people.

Israeli Professor - 'We Could Destroy All European Capitals'

(IAP News) -- An Israeli professor and military historian hinted that Israel could avenge the holocaust by annihilating millions of Germans and other Europeans.

Speaking during an interview which was published in Jerusalem Friday, Professor Martin Van Crevel said Israel had the capability of hitting most European capitals with nuclear weapons. "Our armed forces are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that this will happen before Israel goes under."

"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our air force."

Creveld, a professor of military history at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, pointed out that "collective deportation" was Israel's only meaningful strategy towards the Palestinian people.

"The Palestinians should all be deported. The people who strive for this (the Israeli government) are waiting only for the right man and the right time. Two years ago, only 7 or 8 per cent of Israelis were of the opinion that this would be the best solution, two months ago it was 33 per cent, and now, according to a Gallup poll, the figure is 44 percent."

Creveld said he was sure that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon wanted to deport the Palestinians.

"I think it's quite possible that he wants to do that. He wants to escalate the conflict. He knows that nothing else we do will succeed."

Asked if he was worried about Israel becoming a rogue state if it carried out a genocidal deportation against Palestinians, Creveld quoted former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan who said "Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother."

Washington's elders of anti-Zion

AIPAC's annual conference opened this week to the auspicious news that the US Justice Department will drop its case against two former AIPAC employees on espionage-related charges based on a 90-year-old statute. But the original charges brought against Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman left some friends of Israel uneasy over the calumny of American Jews' "dual loyalty." In recent weeks, the case escalated with accusations that Congresswoman Jane Harman, a strong congressional friend of Israel, attempted to influence the case.

In March the queasiness was widespread in the pro-Israel community after Charles "Chas" Freeman claimed that the Israel lobby torpedoed his appointment to head the US National Intelligence Council. "The aim of this lobby," Freeman told reporters, "is control of the policy process through the exercise of a veto over the appointment of people who dispute the wisdom of its views." One result, he continued, is "the inability of the American public to discuss, or the government to consider, any option for US policies in the Middle East opposed by the ruling faction in Israeli politics."

Freeman's complaints echo the widely-criticized 2007 book, The Israel Lobby by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, in which the authors claim that the Israel lobby's core consists of "American Jews who make a significant effort in their daily lives to bend US foreign policy so that it advances Israel's interests."

And all this came after former president Jimmy Carter published his anti-Israel screed, Palestine Peace Not Apartheid in 2006.

BY NO MEANS should anyone ignore or minimize the Washington leaks and attacks against AIPAC, the American Jewish community or Israel. But it should be understood that these actions are part of a historic, decades-long, beneath-the-surface low-intensity war in Washington to weaken US-Israel relations. Not much has changed since an Arab propagandist in the US, Muhammad Mehdi, proclaimed some 40 years ago, "The road to the liberation of Palestine leads through Washington."

In more than 35 years of my involvement in US-Israeli relations, I have seen the ebbs and surges of various anti-Israel campaigns. Once the anti-Israel crusade was led or conducted by senator J. William Fulbright and congressman Paul Findley, assisted by Jewish anti-Zionists like Elmer Berger and the apostate Alfred Lilienthal, and supported by Arab propagandists and oil interests. In the 1960s and '70s the legislators charged that American policy in the Middle East was too pro-Israel and that Congress was corrupted.

In 1962 Fulbright launched an investigation of foreign lobbyists in Washington, attempting to force AIPAC to register as an agent of Israel rather than a domestic American lobby. His chief investigator was a journalist named Walter Pincus. (Today, Pincus, The Washington Post's veteran national security reporter, helps cover the Jane Harman story and the Rosen-Weissman trial.)

"Israel controls the United States Senate," Fulbright told Face the Nation in 1973. "Around 80 percent are completely in support of Israel; anything Israel wants it gets. Jewish influence in the House of Representatives is even greater." (Years later, after retiring from the Senate, Fulbright registered as a foreign agent for Saudi Arabia.)

Freeman, Walt, and Mearsheimer are but parrots of Fulbright and under secretary of state George Ball who wrote a 1977 Foreign Affairs article, "How to Save Israel in Spite of Itself." Ball declared more than 30 years ago, "How far should we go in continuing to subsidize a policy shaped to accommodate understandable Israeli compulsions which do not accord with the best interests - as we see it - either of Israel or the United States, but are a threat to world peace?... Because many articulate Americans are passionately committed to Israel, the slightest challenge to any aspect of current Israeli policy is likely to provoke a shrill ad hominem response. To suggest that America should take a stronger and more assertive line in the search for Middle East peace is to risk being attacked as a servant either of Arab interests or of the oil companies, or being denounced as anti-Israel, or, by a careless confusion of language, even condemned as anti-Semitic."

In the mid-1970s, secretary of state Henry Kissinger, frustrated by Israel's tough negotiating position and encouraged by Ball, pushed president Gerald Ford to conduct a "reassessment" of relations with Israel. After AIPAC rallied strong congressional opposition to the administration's proposed policy change, AIPAC was investigated by the Justice Department to see if it should register as a foreign agent of Israel. The investigators concluded, "There is not one shred of evidence that AIPAC should be registered as a foreign agent."

AS RONALD REAGAN's vice president, George H. Bush reportedly led the efforts to embargo F-16 aircraft shipments to Israel after the bombing of the Iraqi reactor in 1981. In 1991 as president, Bush went toe-to-toe with the American Jewish community when he sought to tie loan guarantees, which Israel needed to provide housing for the massive aliya of Soviet Jews, to restrictions on the building of settlements in the West Bank and Gaza. When Jewish organizations went up to Capitol Hill to lobby for the aid, Bush went on national TV, pounded his fists and declared that he was "up against some powerful political forces... I heard today, there were something like a thousand lobbyists on the Hill working the other side of the question. We've got one lonely little guy [the president] down here doing it."

Bush went on to chip away at public support for Israel by claiming that American soldiers had "risked their lives to defend Israelis" in the Gulf War and that "despite our own economic problems the United States provided Israel with more than $4 billion in economic and military aid, nearly $1,000 for every Israeli man, woman and child." continues here

Tony Blair, the Quartet's envoy to the Middle East, expressed surprise on Friday when Public Security Minister Avi Dichter told him he feared he would be arrested should he travel to the United Kingdom, according to sources close to Dichter.

Dichter canceled a trip to Britain in December over concerns he would be arrested due to his involvement in the decision to assassinate the head of Hamas' military wing in July 2002.

Sources close to Dichter quoted Blair, who resigned in June from the British premiership, as telling the Israeli minister during a meeting in Jerusalem that he was "shocked" to hear those concerns, and called them "utter nonsense."

The sources also said Blair told Dichter that he was under the impression that the matter had been settled while he was still prime minister.

Dichter's concerns pertain to the 2002 bombing of Salah Shehade's house in Gaza, which killed fifteen people, among them his wife and three children. At the time, Dichter was head of the Shin Bet security service. He is the first minister to have to deal with a possible arrest.

The public security minister planned to visit Britain in December, but the Foreign Ministry wrote him that it did not recommend he do so because of a high probability that an extreme leftist organization there would file a complaint, which might lead to an arrest warrant. The ministry also wrote that because Dichter was not an official guest of the British government, he did not have immunity from arrest.

Dichter's bureau said in response that the minister does not intend to go to Britain on any type of official or unofficial visit until the matter of the arrest warrant is resolved.

Dichter was already charged in a civil suit in the United States in 2005 for his part in the decision to assassinate Shehade. But in this U.S., this is not a cause for arrest......Article conts (-)
