Editorial :
I awoke today to some great news, news that as a law-abiding citizen and as a nationalist I have awaited for some time, today the 16 November 2009 could prove to be a momentous day, a day when a great evil is removed from our streets, a day when the elderly can sleep easier in their beds in their twilight years. It is a fact that thee greatest rape inquiry ever untaken in this country has been kept quiet because of political correctness, this a crime of extreme severity against the defenceless, against the old, against the truly vulnerable within our society, oh we have all heard of Peter Sutcliff and many more white monsters, evil afflicts all races, yet this plague upon all our houses ,this agenda driven suppression of truth, is only ever used for incidents that may blacken, “can I use that word”, this enforced multiracial society.

So it is that non-white crime is indeed rarely covered by the mainstream media, so it is that potential victims are never warned, never forearmed, never protected by a state whose job it is to do so. Today there is an epidemic of crime, attacks upon the white population soar and still, still they tell us we have to accept ,you will know of Fred West a truly vile creature but how many know of Kenneth Erskine, known as the Stockwell Strangler, this fiend to, as with the current Night Stalker case, sought white elderly victims, men and women in their seventies and eighties ,the youngest victim Mrs Cockett aged 67, all were sexually assaulted or raped, men and women utterly unable to defend themselves, attacked viciously, the male victims Mr Gleim and Mr Strabawa, 84 and 94 respectively.

The crimes above can be found here along with other victims of this appalling experiment. The Incident Map Project does I am afraid need updating, and it is by no means extensive and in fact if any readers can help with information concerning crimes committed, could they please send it here, so that in some way the victims can be commemorated and those responsible for permitting this horror can be held to account, whilst for those of us still enduring we may make use of the information.

Perhaps the greatest listing of crimes against the people were to be found at the old National Front website, regrettably this information is no longer available, we had at one time endeavoured to recreate this information on another website, although we found that we had in fact created an exact replica of that offered by the National Front, we decided not to submit to the web, never knowing that quite soon after the information would be lost forever. Yet although valuable, the information is limited in use, a map containing the information and indeed indicating such things as hotspots and clustering was needed, the Incident Map was created, it is possible to use the information presented there in a number of ways and already we can tell that areas with a high proportion of non-whites hold immense danger for Caucasians, we knew this already however, to see it visually makes, I feel, all the difference.

Yet I feel that independent websites and blogs such as AAWR are of immense importance, I believe that whites face an onslaught of crime so vast as to be almost a campaign in itself, certainly the instilled hatred implanted into the minds of non-whites by leftists has not helped and non-whites have now been fed upon a diet of anti-white and anti-western propaganda, which from time to time creates an explosion within the minds of the unstable. Statistically non-whites are more likely to suffer from mental health problems, this is for many reasons, both genetically and also conversely, because non-whites are set within a completely alien environment which erodes sanity within some, it is unfortunately whites who suffer for it.

Kenneth Erskine, the Stockwell Strangler buggered many of his victims, men and women of great age imagine the terror of the victims, the shame, the final act was to look into the eyes of his victims, to watch as life left their body. Erskine would kneel upon his victim’s chest, placing one hand over their mouth and strangling them with his other hand, Kenneth Erskines conviction would be amended later on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Yet would a sane man or indeed women, murder in such a fashion, is it not that case, that only the truly evil, the insane, could or would indulge in such acts, therefore reducing the tariff is in itself a crime and an insult to both the victims and their families and as stated above, many non-whites suffer from mental disorders disproportionately given their numbers, are we to assume that they will attract a lesser tariff than white predators and monsters, can we assume that the Night Stalker will attract a lesser sentence due to this factor, whilst white fiends are splashed across the tabloid press with great abandon.

If race were not a factor, if we were truly all the same, then why the disparity, surely in an equal society crime figures would not be suppressed, as is the case currently, surely the publics right to know would come before political correctness or “The Experiment”, it would seem not. Non-whites have elevated status this being the case even for the very worst that race has to offer, whilst whites are denied parity and even more importantly I feel, information that may lead to the arrest of perpetrators or enable potential victims to take all reasonable precautions. The independent media, websites and weblogs have created a unique set of circumstances, already this has had an effect upon their “No platform” policy, in that they cannot now suppress information, be it nationalist in origin or not. Certainly they can and indeed do, attack websites that carry dissenting information, one need only look to the recent attack upon David Irving’s website to realise this, however there is such a vast array of information out there, that without resorting to overt censorship, they cannot hope to succeed.

It may be the case in this instance that they have no choice but to cover this story in great detail, again I draw the reader to the fact that this is the biggest rape inquiry ever undertaken by the Metropolitan police or I believe any other force, this attacker carried out the very worst crimes, against some of the most vulnerable and most have never heard of the case until today, that in itself is telling. The Night Stalker attacks methodically and viciously, suffering it is believed from gerontophilia, the reverse of paedophilia in that his attraction is to the elderly, one hopes that this will not present as impairment enough to reduce his sentence on appeal. The Night Stalker firstly cut off any hope of rescue he cuts external telephone wires and if he cannot find them he removes all telephones from their sockets once inside the house, unlike the Stockwell Strangler he is a talented burglar, not needing an open window he enters the house in a professional manner. Having disabled the telephones he invariably searches for valuables, although this is not his primary motivation, which is to sate his lust by attacking the elderly. Clad in a tight fitting black suit and wearing a mask he disables the lights by removing the bulbs or turning the electricity off at the consumer unit, he then shines a torch into the face of his terrified victims, he tells them not to make a noise and they won’t be harmed, he then attacks them for some time, for some hours. Many of his 110 victims are damaged quite severely internally, it can only be imagined the damage done to them psychologically, yet few have heard of this case until today, few ever realised that this countries most prolific serial rapist was even at large, let alone his ethnicity.

Egalitarians will tell you we are all the same, that our differences are simply a matter of skin colour yet the Metropolitan police were able to establish right down to the island the ancestral home of the attacker, they established race almost immediately, calling for sampling to determine the actual island in the Caribbean the attacker or his ancestors hailed from. At this point the Black Police Association banned all black officers from taking part, this attracted some criticism and in this instance commonsense prevailed, after all who would officially put their name to such an order, risk the ire of the public. We can never know the absolute outcome of the sampling undertaken in the Operation Minstead investigation, what we do know is that they were able to establish race and narrow down considerably the geographical area of ancestral origin. We know also that many within the black community failed to aid the investigation citing racial prejudice as at play within the investigation, they had been asked merely to provide a DNA sample in order to be eliminated from ongoing enquiries.

So this in its entirety completely undermines the egalitarian, “we are all the same” inside theory, whilst also we recognise that the black community will generally speaking defend it own even under the most horrendous circumstance, the Black newspaper The Voice calling investigations, into Minstead man “an abuse of power that damaged relations between London’s black community and the police”, whilst one officer Nathaniel Braithwaite a former CID officer with the Met took his former employers to an employment tribunal, alleging unfair dismissal and racial discrimination, after refusing to undertake his duties, which were to stop and profile likely suspects in South London, the area the Night Stalker was said to operate. Concerns were constantly raised during this investigation against racial profiling, yet in this instance race had been established it was simply a matter of ruling suspects out in an ongoing investigation, further, incidences of predatory behaviour of a sexual nature amongst the black community, are markedly disproportionate when contrasted with that of other races, perhaps therefore, the giving of DNA samples created fear amongst certain sections of that community, individuals that had cause to fear personally.

Again the rates of attack carried out by non-whites is extensive yet the true figures are never given, never recorded, due to political correctness or perhaps a fear of a backlash, it would seem that due to this imposed experiment, the will to successfully concentrate upon tackling crime falls second police to social-engineering and the agenda. Some time ago now both myself and other nationalists attempted to compile such information, we were completely overwhelmed, utterly unable to do so, given the sheer volume of offences committed, it is no exaggeration to say, that there is an epidemic taking place and that the authorities turn a blind eye. For all their attacks upon the white community, for all the cries of racism at every opportunity, did you know there are two facts to consider, Britain’s worst racially motivated murder was carried out by non-whites, Britain’s most prolific rapist is non-white and it has even been suggested that Britain’s worst serial-killer Harold Shipman was Jewish, it baffles the mind therefore why whites are so pilloried, so universally attacked, when after all they are the victims. Returning to Minstead man, it is believed that he has some understanding of the health needs of the elderly, as during the investigation evidence emerged that he supported victims in a trained manner, can it be that this beast works for or did, for the NHS, certainly he has been reported as having some understanding of geriatrics.

The degree of trauma suffered by his elderly victims is extensive, one victim nearly dying from her internal injuries after being buggered by her attacker, yet as D S Morgan stated finding the true total of victims is difficult, he gave this statement, “His victims come from a generation who are inclined to see good in everyone. One thanked him for being gentle when he raped her". Another said she didn’t want to dial 999 "because I know the police are already so busy". Doesn’t it make you want to weep, weep for the victims, the victims of this horrendous experiment, that have needlessly suffered, it is believed that the perpetrator has carried out some 108 crimes, yet the true figure may never be known ,some commentators estimate 200 or more victims, here at AAWR we say one is enough, we hope justice is served, at least as much as it can be.

Man arrested, allegedly admits to multiple sexual assaults

10:49 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A man arrested for allegedly luring a 15-year-old boy to Cerritos with the promise of a job, then binding him with duct tape and sexually assaulting him, has admitted assaulting five others, L.A. County sheriff's officials said today.

"We found a lot of duct tape and other evidence near the warehouse in Cerritos," said Sgt. Dan Scott.

Lamar Andre Evans Jr., 20, was arrested Friday in Norwalk and told detectives about the assaults, Scott said. Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying the other victims.

Evans met the teenager Oct. 13 in the 1100 block of South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles, asked if he needed a job and exchanged phone numbers with him, Scott said.

The teen called Evans about work, and Evans told him about a warehouse job in Cerritos, Scott said. They arranged to meet Oct. 16, and Evans took the teen to a warehouse area in the 1600 block of Shoemaker Avenue in Cerritos. There, Evans had the teen perform physically exhausting tasks, then said he needed to perform a safety test and bound the teen's hands with duct tape, Scott said

Evans next proceeded to bind him more, cut off his clothes and sodomized him, Scott said. The teen broke free and fought Evans off.

Evans was initially arrested Friday on a parole violation and later booked on suspicion of sodomy and false imprisonment. In a follow-up interview, Evans admitted assaulting the five others, whose names and ages were unknown, Scott said. continues here

Gang rape on school campus went on for hours

09:31 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

WALNUT CREEK - Onlookers laughed, took pictures and even joined in Saturday night during the two-hour gang rape of a semi-conscious 15-year-old outside her high school homecoming dance, police said Monday.

Teams of detectives and school resource officers spent the rest of the weekend trying to track down those responsible.

"The crimes perpetrated against this 15-year-old are both startling and horrific," police Chief Chris Magnus said Monday. "We are committed to arresting the perpetrators and to preparing the strongest case possible by aggressively pursuing every lead and utilizing the full resources of the department."

The victim, a student, remained hospitalized Monday with non-life-threatening injuries.

Patrol officers broke up the sex assault just before midnight, arresting 19-year-old Manuel Ortega as he ran from the crime scene, they say.

"She was raped, beaten, robbed and dehumanized by several suspects who were obviously OK enough with it to behave that way in each other's presence," said Lt. Mark Gagan, a patrol supervisor in the city's Northern Policing District. "What makes it even more disturbing is the presence of others. People came by, saw what was happening, and failed to report it."

Ortega remained at County Jail in Martinez on Monday booked on suspicion of rape and robbery. Detectives believe as many as six other men also raped the girl as she lay semi-conscious on a courtyard bench, also beating her, taking pictures and stealing her jewelry.

Police took at least one student out of Richmond High on Monday afternoon for questioning.

Nobody called police until word of the ongoing rape spread to a house party in the city's North and East neighborhood, where an appalled partygoer felt obligated to phone in the rumor.

"That's just wrong," said senior Class President Gina Saechao, who helped organize the dance, said Monday. "What if it was your little sister? What if it was your mom?"

Officers broke it up, and found the victim semiconscious and obviously hurt. Paramedics flew her to a regional trauma center in critical condition; she stabilized overnight.

The Contra Costa Times does not name victims of sexual assault without their consent.

The girl attended the dance, held in the gym from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday. About 400 students attended, with three administrators and four police officers both inside and watching the surrounding parking lot and street.

Police say the victim left alone about 9:30 p.m. and walked away from the dance, expecting to catch a ride from her father. Instead, a schoolmate caught her attention from behind a cyclone fence on the north end of campus. continues here

Editorial : Another victim, another victim of this madness, so many victims yet no solution offered, quite simply society has changed and those that suffer are the innocent, will we ever know the race of this victim, certainly we realise, based upon past evidence, that the perpetrators of such an outrage are unlikely to be Caucasian, yet the unacknowledged truth by the mainstream media is, that many gang-rapes have a racial element, in that the victims are in a majority of cases white. We cannot know of course in this case, whether the same conditions are met, i.e. non-whites perpetrators and a white victim, in any event our hearts must go out to this young lady, to her family and those that love her, be she of any race.

Heavily pregnant woman raped in her own home by gang of burglars armed with sawn-off shotgun

19:29 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A heavily pregnant woman was raped at gunpoint in her bedroom by a gang of armed burglars who broke into her home.

The 33-year-old victim, who was seven months' pregnant, was watching TV with her boyfriend when the balaclava-clad men forced their way into their North London home.

Her 39-year-old boyfriend was threatened and hit around the head with the butt of a sawn-off shotgun as they demanded the keys to their Audi TT which was parked outside.

The woman was then grabbed and forced upstairs by one of the attackers and forced to perform a sex act on him which police have described as 'oral rape'.

He threatened to shoot the couple unless she did what he said.

Speaking for the first time about the rape, the victim said: 'I just wanted to protect my baby. I was absolutely terrified and being so late in the pregnancy I didn't want to get into a fight where they might hurt me or my baby.

'He (the rapist) said it was my lucky day.'

Her boyfriend added: 'I pleaded, I was shouting, "She's pregnant, she's pregnant, leave off her, tell me what you want".'

The men took the couple's grey Audi TT and other items including an iPod, cash, debit cards and a laptop from their Finsbury Park home on May 14 last year.

The car was found abandoned two days later in Portland Road, near Seven Sisters Underground station.

'Concerns for the unborn baby can only have exacerbated what was already an emotionally and physically traumatic experience.'

He added: 'Allegiances may have changed over the last 14 months and we would urge anyone with information to contact us.

'There is a reward on offer of up to £20,000 and I hope there are people out there who are prepared to do the right thing and tell us what they know.

'Do you know the men who did this? Do you remember hearing anyone boasting about stealing an Audi TT around this time? We would like to hear from you.'

The couple are still haunted by the attack.

The female victim said: 'Everything that you believe to be safe is no longer safe. You can't walk into the bedroom and feel relaxed because you remember that someone was in there who wasn't supposed to be there.'

The couple had been watching TV when they heard a noise outside at around 10.30pm. The boyfriend opened the front door to see what was going on.

He saw the three men, all wearing balaclavas and scarves, at the end of the path and tried to shut the front door but the men forced their way inside and shoved him to the ground.

The suspect who carried out the sexual assault is described as black, 6ft, aged 18 to 25 and stocky.

He wore a black balaclava, black jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and black shoes.

A second man was black or Asian, 5ft 6in and about 18.

He wore light grey tracksuit bottoms, black trainers and a zip-up jacket with red sleeves.

The third suspect, who had the gun was black, 5ft 10in, and aged between 18 and 22. He was wearing burgundy tracksuit bottoms.

Police said they were keen to trace the men if only to eliminate them from their inquiries.

DI Pack said he believes the men who carried out the attack either live locally or have links to the area.

He added: 'They clearly felt comfortable committing a crime at the top end of the scale which suggests they know the area. continues here

Editorial : So when are you going to stop this, you traitors in parliament, you who have not a care for the indigenous people of this country, how much more must we take ,how much more of your dammed experiment must you force upon us. We had a fine country once, a decent country, look what you have made for us, rape so common no-one bats an eye, murder daily and violence master of all he surveys. Your experiment is evil, truly evil and it is you with blood upon your hands, you that caused this, each and every one of you that force your agenda down the throats of the people.

Understand this, it has been some time, some time since you imported them here, since you decided that our way of life, lived since the very beginning, must change, yet still they are not wanted, still they can never be European and still they prey upon us whilst you police only our thoughts, I very much hope that one day the people of this country rise against this evil and justice returns again to the peoples side.

Sadistic pair jailed for horrific rape of young mum

10:18 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

Two knife-wielding burglars who gang-raped a young mother in her home as her young son begged them to stop have been locked up.

The drink and drug-fuelled pair took turns to rape the woman after horrifically killing the child’s pet in front of him.

Mansoor Shah, 18, of Glenlee Road, Great Horton, Bradford, was locked up indefinitely for taking the leading role.

Judge Jonathan Rose said Shah had taken “revolting pleasure” in the sadistic abuse of a terrified young woman.

Stefan Reed, 17, of Lister Avenue, West Bowling, Bradford, was sent to detention for nine years. Both pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary on November 10 last year and raping the woman twice.

Judge Rose said the break-in while the 22-year-old mother and her son slept was motivated by revenge and lust.

He told the teenagers, both handcuffed in the dock at Bradford Crown Court: “You took part in criminality so wicked, so cruel and so brutal that it will stagger and revolt all right-thinking people.”

Shah and Reed broke into the woman’s bedroom armed with kitchen knives.

Peter Moulson, prosecuting, said Shah put the mother through a six-hour ordeal after a row over a party. He threatened to “slice her up”.

Shah tried to force her to drink bleach and made her down vodka, then beat the child’s pet against a wall and stabbed it.

He shattered tubes from a sunbed and threatened to smash one over the woman’s head as her son screamed and begged, Mr Moulson said.

He tied them together with flex and struck her with a claw hammer, pulling out her hair.

He stabbed her after Reed, who laughed during her ordeal, insulted him. The pair ransacked the house, daubing it in paint.

They each raped the woman twice while the other stayed with the boy. She did not scream because she did not want her son to hear, the court was told.

The pair lit a gas ring and tried to set the kitchen on fire. While they were distracted, the woman fled the house with her son.

Reed had rings stolen from the woman on him when the pair were arrested the same day. continues here

    South African rapist: 'Forgive me'

23:54 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

Dumisani Rebombo and his friend raped a young girl in their village in South Africa when they were teenagers.

Years later, he returned to the same village to find the woman he attacked and begged for her forgiveness.

Mr Rebombo, 49, is one of thousands of men in South Africa who admit to having carried out a sexual assault - one in four, according to a recent survey.

He told BBC News why he feels so many young men in his homeland engage in the ill-treatment of women.

Before the incident, I was constantly jeered for not being man enough.

At the time I was not ready to have a girlfriend when all my friends did.

I did not tend the cattle or sheep, nor did I attend the initiation school [where South African teenagers are circumcised in traditional rites of passage].

    This fuelled my daily jeers.

A friend and my cousin pressured me to prove that I was man enough, by taking part in the rape of a teenage girl in the village.

This was termed "straightening her up", since she did not want to go out with any of the local boys.

I succumbed to this daily pressure and on the day of the incident, when they saw me trembling with fear, they ordered me to take marijuana and beer to defeat my fears.

I did just that and the two of us [my friend and I] proceeded to rape the girl.

    Guilty and scared

    Afterwards, I was terrified.

I felt guilty but also scared that the news could reach my mother who had a high standing in the community.

The following day, when we went for our soccer practice, this incident was reported to all the other football players.

On hearing the news, they sang and clapped as if we had done something right.

This helped to stop the jeering somewhat and I was allowed to associate with the other boys.

I still felt guilty, at least partially so, especially when I saw the girl in the village. Sometimes I tried to avoid meeting her.

But slowly, over time, I began to think less and less about the incident.

I left my village in Limpopo Province and went to live in the city and joined a religious group from which I learned a lot about love and respect for all.

Strangely, I did not think much of the incident - I just went on with my life.

I started work with an NGO (non-governmental organisation) where I mostly worked with unemployed mothers.

Every Monday morning, the women reported incidents of abuse in different forms.

As they did this, I could not help it but give way to introspection.

It was as if every time I heard of a negative act by a man, I was forced to go back to my own incident.

I then asked my employers to train us in a methodology which would target boys and men.

They did this and very soon, I felt challenged, self-consciously, to set an example to the men I was teaching.

    Seeking forgiveness

I took a decision to go back to find the woman I raped.

I realised that the woman needed justice.

But also, I wanted to ask for forgiveness, now that I understood the effects and consequences for someone who has been raped.

I went to my pastor about this. His response was: "You are saved now, you were once in the mud, but now you know the truth and you are therefore OK."

He also asked me if I was ready to go to jail. He said: "What if the woman went to the authorities?"

My answer was: "If I go to jail, that would be justice for that woman."

I therefore took the journey to the north.

I wanted her to know that I felt bad about what I had done to her, that I was a changed man and I was working with other men to prevent rape.

When we met, she showed a wry smile on her face.

Since we were at a public clinic, she thought I was a doctor or someone from the Ministry of Health.

I related my story to her. She looked at me and revealed that she had since been raped on two other occasions.

She started crying. She told me how she often cringes when her husband touches her.

She told me that her life was never the same emotionally following these incidents.

Worse still, she was not ready to tell her husband of what had happened.

Finally, she said that she forgave me, and thought that I had meant well with all that I had said.

I left that room with a new burden - to do something about rape in my community and my country.

    Machismo feelings

If you asked me: "What motivates so many men in South Africa to engage in un-consensual sex?" I would say that it is the machismo feelings and beliefs, coupled with patriarchal processes and tendencies.

I think that we raise boys in the wrong way, but later on in their lives we want to see them as different men who care and love. continues here

    Gang rape in London

13:37 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A couple of days ago I published a brief post from South Africa which reported that one in 4 males admitted to being rapists. But rape in the city is not just happening on a large scale in South Africa. Here in London a recent Channel 4 Dispatches documentary highlighted the prevalence of gang rape by young boys. Rape in the City was produced by award winning Sierra Leonean journalist., Sorious Samura who despite being “shot at, spat at and abused” in the making of past documentary’s was still shocked by what he found. During the war in Sierra Leone, Samura had witnessed a gang rape, something he associated with war and not what he expected to find on the streets of London.

I felt so angry and hurt watching these young boys casually denigrate girls with their attitude and words – I find it hard to express my own feelings. Listening to a group of young boys who spoke of a “line up” where a line of boys stand in wait whilst a girl performs oral sex, was appalling. The boys did not even think there was anything wrong in setting up and coercing girls to have sex with them. For them the girls were just trash to be abused.there are a disproportionate number of young black boys involved in gang rape... Girls spoke of the horrific experience of being gang raped, one as a punishment for her comments about a friends boyfriend who was a gang leader. She was repeatedly raped by 4 or 5 boys who later called more boys to join in. The attitude of the boys was that it was the girls fault and nothing to do with them and that if a girl was amongst them then she was asking for it. On being questioned about STD’s one boy said he would ‘batter’ any girl that passed on a STD.

In the course of my research I have been shocked to hear victims and witnesses to gang rape talk about the incidence of this crime as if it were just a fact of urban life. Girls are passed around groups of boys. Sometimes these girls initially consent because they want to be popular, but the incident then turns nasty. Sometimes a girl unwittingly walks into a trap, innocently visiting someone’s house to listen to music or watch a film and then discovering that a group of boys are laying in wait. Occasionally the gang rape is used to punish a girl for talking out of turn……….

And yet in the course of my Dispatches investigation I have discovered that gang rape is becoming part of the fabric of life for some young people living in our cities. But it’s not gang rape as you might imagine – it’s not, in most cases, the seizing of girls off the streets by total strangers. It’s happening in homes and at parties between young people who are known to each other, who run in the same crowds. And what’s most disturbing to me is that it’s often just the result of a group of boys deciding to force sex on an unwitting girl, who doesn’t realise that the invitation to someone’s house to watch DVDs or to hang out in the local park is a set up for gang rape. It can happen because a group of boys is attracted to a particular girl or just because she has annoyed one of them.

It is again shocking to learn that gang rape is not even recognised as a separate criminal offence and each rapist is tried as having committed an individual crime. It’s also clear from his report that the police are less than enthusiastic about dealing with rape particularly when it happens in the Black community. Only a few police forces even bothered to respond to his requests for statistics on rapes and rape convictions. The London Metropolitan Police did provide records that showed 108 gang rapes[3 or more rapists] were reported in London in 2008 – from that alone its not exaggerating to state that the actual gang rapes are probably at least double that. Three quarters of the convicted rapists were young black men…

On the face of it, these figures may appear small, but they are nevertheless statistically significant when you consider that nearly three quarters of those convicted were black. Why the incidence should be higher amongst young black men I do not know, but the stats speak for themselves, and on the ground youth workers and community leaders confirmed our conclusions. Sheldon Thomas, a Brixton youth worker, acknowledges that there are a disproportionate number of young black boys involved in gang rape, and it’s something that’s of real concern to him, ‘because we’ve got a situation in our community that needs to be addressed. And I don’t believe that we are addressing it’.

But whilst I would agree that we need to address the disproportionate incidence within the black community, I think it would be wrong to label this as a black issue. What we need is for people from across all communities and public sectors to engage with this issue, and colour must not get in the way of that.

The silence around these crimes allows them to continue with impunity. The silence of the police who do not offer protection to those few young girls and women who report rape. One young girl in the programme reported the rape but had to withdraw the charges after she was threatened, had bottles and objects thrown at her by the rapists. Why was she and her family not protected. How is she supposed to live in the same community where she has to pass these young men daily? Women have always been at the forefront in the movement against violence against women. Is it not about time for men to take a stand against rape? Not just Black men but all men. The responsibility to protect young girls and take an uncompromising stand against misogyny and rape on estates, the streets and in the playground has to come from the local authorities, the police, the schools and the community. .continues here

Met 'can't explain' 15% rise in rapes

13:30 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

The number of women reporting sex assaults in London has risen dramatically, it emerged today.

New figures show reported rapes soared by 15 per cent in a year, with 2,180 recorded in the year to March compared with 1,904 in the year to April last year.

Commander Mark Simmons of the Met police told the London Assembly public health committee that the figure was still a serious underestimate as about 90 per cent of rapes go unreported.

But he said the Met had no idea why the numbers were rising. "Overall, violence is going down and there is no reason we can see for the number of rapes to have gone up. It is difficult to tell why the figures have gone up. We don't think more people are committing rape."

He added: "If these figures mean more people are coming forward to the police, then that is positive."

The figures emerged after Boris Johnson was accused of betraying women by back-tracking on a manifesto pledge to fund three new rape crisis centres.

His manifesto promised £744,000 a year - or £2.2 million overall - to pay for the scheme. The Mayor said the cash would come from cuts to Ken Livingstone's army of spin doctors but it later emerged that he had set aside only £233,000 a year in the budget.continues here

Gang rape: Is it a race issue?

15:01 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A high proportion of such attacks appears to be carried out by young black men, according to Metropolitan Police statistics. Sorious Samura investigates this horrendous crime – and what it says about Britain today

In 1999 I witnessed a gang rape in Sierra Leone. I was forced to watch a group of rebel soldiers taking it in turns to rape a young girl in front of an audience of jeering men. It was the height of the civil conflict and rape had become a devastating weapon of war. When I moved to Britain I believed I had escaped such horrific sexual violence. As my Dispatches investigation tomorrow night shows, I was mistaken. Gang rape is happening here – and what I have found most disturbing as an African is that a disproportionate number of these attacks are being carried out by black or mixed-race young men.

Towards the end of last year, police and child welfare experts working on Channel 4's Street Weapons Commission told us of their concerns about gang rape. Then two big cases hit the headlines.

In December, nine schoolboys, some as young as 13 at the time of the attack, were convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl. She was dragged between tower blocks in Hackney where she was threatened with a knife, hit and raped during an ordeal that lasted an hour and a half – some of which was filmed on mobile phones. In January, three men were convicted of gang raping a 16-year-old with learning disabilities for two hours before dousing her with caustic soda in an effort to get rid of the evidence.

How prevalent is this crime and why it is happening in Britain? Despite the seriousness of the crime, I was amazed to discover that no national statistics exist: gang rape is simply not recorded as a separate crime category. So over a period of several months we set about collating our own. "There was just loads of boys and the girl's tights were ripped up, like, she was bleeding as well, because I think she was a virgin, and they were just taking turns on her basically, and she was crying, and I didn't get involved because I thought if I get involved they're gonna turn on me."

We approached the Crown Prosecution Service, the Association of Chief Police Officers, all 50 police forces, crown courts, barristers and rape referral centres to try to establish the numbers.

One of the few police forces to have begun recording the figures of reported gang rape is the Metropolitan Police. In 2008 alone, they received reports of 85 gang rapes. Using the Met's definition of gang rape – those involving three or more perpetrators – we began to look at the number of convictions. We tracked down 29 cases, from January 2006 to March 2009, in which a total of 92 young people were convicted of involvement in gang rape.

One fact stood out. Of those convicted, 66 were black or mixed race, 13 were white and the remainder were from other countries including Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

Clearly this is not a crime exclusive to black communities, but I found it impossible to ignore the fact that such a high proportion were committed by black and mixed-race young men. As a black man as well as a journalist, I wanted to understand what lay behind such attacks. So I spoke to victims, groups of black and mixed-race teenagers, youth and social workers and community leaders.

The groups of young men I met in London expressed some profoundly disturbing attitudes towards girls and sex. The boys explained how they make arrangements for "line-ups" in which one girl has oral sex with up to six or seven of them at one time. These arrangements might be made at school or on mobile phones.

Sometimes these girls initially consent because they want to be popular. But these events can spiral into rape because the boys consider that any girl who is prepared to agree to a line-up can be considered fair game. One boy told me: "If she wants to go and meet a bag of boys then she's probably a jezzie [slut], and if she's going to a house it's over – she's going to get beaten [have sex]."

In other instances, as some of the victims in our film describe, girls can unwittingly walk into a trap, innocently visiting someone's house to listen to music or watch a film only to discover that a group of boys are lying in wait. Or they might be hanging out with friends in a park and suddenly realise they have become surrounded by a group of boys intent on sex.

For both boys and girls, the line between this sort of group sex and rape seems to be blurred. A girl might agree to have oral sex with two or three boys but then be ordered to have sex with six or seven. The teenage girls I met told me that boys simply don't understand what rape is. And yet this is a crime that can ruin lives and is punishable by life imprisonment.

Occasionally gang rape is used to punish a girl for minor transgressions against gang members. In one of my most shocking interviews, I met a girl who admitted she had helped to set up girls for gang rape. As the girlfriend of a gang member, she organised these rapes, partly out of fear and partly to fit in.

She admitted she was terrified of being raped herself and had walked away when witnessing a girl being gang-raped at a party because she feared she might be next: "There was just loads of boys and the girl's tights were ripped up, like, she was bleeding as well, because I think she was a virgin, and they were just taking turns on her basically, and she was crying, and I didn't get involved because I thought if I get involved they're gonna turn on me."

The victims' descriptions of their attacks are horrific. One young victim likened her attack to being "pulled and pushed around like a rag doll", while another 14-year-old girl described her ordeal when she was gang raped by a total of nine boys who told her that she was not the only girl they had attacked. In that case, nine boys were subsequently convicted of raping her. The youngest perpetrator was just 12 years old.

I found there was concern among black communities about this violence. The Rev Joyce Daley, from the Black Parents Forum in Hackney, told me that gang rape is not a rare or one-off phenomenon. It is happening on a regular basis. She said: "It could actually explode on our very streets." Steve Griffith, a youth worker in King's Cross, said: "I see too much abuse of young women on the streets."

Gang rape, while constituting only a tiny percentage of all rapes in the UK, is a horrible reality in this country. The nature of the crime is so appalling that much more research needs to be carried out into its causes. But what seems evident from my investigation is that the key to preventing it will be changing the way young men view women and the kind of group sexual activity they are engaging in at such a young age.continues here

Quarter of men in South Africa admit rape, survey finds

08:21 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

    • Research exposes culture of sexual violence
    • Government criticised for 'woeful' conviction rate

One in four men in South Africa have admitted to rape and many confess to attacking more than one victim, according to a study that exposes the country's endemic culture of sexual violence.

Three out of four rapists first attacked while still in their teens, the study found. One in 20 men said they had raped a woman or girl in the last year.

South Africa is notorious for having one of the highest levels of rape in the world. Only a fraction are reported, and only a fraction of those lead to a conviction.

The study into rape and HIV, by the country's Medical Research Council (MRC), asked men to tap their answers into a Palm Pilot device to guarantee anonymity. The method appears to have produced some unusually frank responses.

Professor Rachel Jewkes of the MRC, who carried out the research, said: "We have a very, very high prevalence of rape in South Africa. I think it is down to ideas about masculinity based on gender hierarchy and the sexual entitlement of men. It's rooted in an African ideal of manhood."

Jewkes and her colleagues interviewed a representative sample of 1,738 men in South Africa's Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.

Of those surveyed, 28% said they had raped a woman or girl, and 3% said they had raped a man or boy. Almost half who said they had carried out a rape admitted they had done so more than once, with 73% saying they had carried out their first assault before the age of 20.

The study, which had British funding, also found that men who are physically violent towards women are twice as likely to be HIV-positive. They are also more likely to pay for sex and to not use condoms. It's rooted in an African ideal of manhood."

Any woman raped by a man over the age of 25 has a one in four chance of her attacker being HIV-positive.

One in 10 men said they had been forced to have sex with another man. Many find it difficult to report such attacks to the police in subcultures where the concept of homosexuality is taboo.

South Africa's government has been repeatedly criticised for failing to address the crisis. Only 7% of reported rapes are estimated to lead to a conviction. Jewkes said: "There's been a lot of concern about the way the criminal justice system works, because it's still woeful."

Before his election as president, Jacob Zuma stood trial for the rape of a family friend. His supporters demonstrated at the court house, verbally attacked his accuser and sang "burn the bitch, burn the bitch". Zuma was eventually acquitted.

Jewkes added: "The social space for debating these gender issues is now smaller than it was a few years ago. We need our government to show political leadership in changing attitudes. We need South African men, from the top to the grassroots, to take responsibility."

Anti-rape campaigners said the shocking figures demonstrated the need for reform. Dean Peacock, co-director of the Sonke Gender Justice project, said: "We need to make sure the criminal justice system is held to account. We have lots of discussion in this country, but not enough action is taken to ensure that perpetrators will face consequences."

Zuma, a polygamist, was criticised for emphasising his Zulu tribal identity and singing militant songs during this year's election campaign. He made comments that outraged anti-Aids and gender campaigners.

Peacock added: "We're at a complicated moment in South African history with revived traditionalism and there's a danger of gender transformation being lost.

"We hear men saying, 'If Jacob Zuma can have many wives, I can have many girlfriends.' The hyper-masculine rhetoric of the Zuma campaign is going to set back our work in challenging the old model of masculinity."continues here

Is rape rampant in gender-equal Sweden?

12:23 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A recent European Commission report identifying Sweden as the rape capital of Europe should be treated with a healthy dose of scepticism, argues sociologist Laura AgustĂn.

Rape is a complicated crime. A research project funded by the European Commission’s Daphne programme reveals that Sweden leads Europe in reports of rape.

At 46.5 per 100,000 members of the population, Sweden far surpasses Iceland, which comes next with 36, and England and Wales after that with 26. At the same time, Sweden’s 10 percent conviction rate of rape suspects is one of Europe’s lowest.

The report’s comparative dimension should probably be ignored. Instead of assuming that there are four times as many rapes in Sweden as in neighbouring Denmark or Finland, as the figures suggest, to understand we would have to compare all the definitional and procedural differences between their legal systems. It is significant that Sweden counts every event between the same two people separately where other countries count them as one. Most of Sweden’s rapes involve people who know each other, in domestic settings.

The countries reporting highest rates of rape are northern European with histories of social programming to end violence against women. In Sweden, Gender Equality is taught in schools and reinforced in public-service announcements. Should we believe that such education has no effect, or, much worse, an opposite effect? Raging anti-feminist men think so, and raging anti-immigrant Swedes blame foreigners. Amnesty International says patriarchal norms are intransigent in Swedish family life. Everyone faults the criminal justice system.

In contemporary Sweden, women and girls are encouraged to speak up assertively about gender bias and demand their rights. Public discussions have revolved around how to achieve equal sex: Gender Equality in the bedroom. We can consult okejsex.nu, an official campaign whose homepage shows pedestrians obliviously passing buildings full of scenes of violence, suggesting it is ubiquitous behind closed doors. Okejsex defines rape as any situation where sex occurs after someone has said no.

In many countries, and in many people’s minds, rape means penetration, usually by a penis, into a mouth, vagina or anus. In Swedish rape law, the word can be used for acts called assault or bodily harm in other countries.

That may be progressive, but it’s also confusing. You don’t have to be sexist or racist to imagine the misunderstandings that may arise. If younger people (or older, for that matter) have been out drinking and dancing and end up in a flat relaxing late at night, we are not surprised that the possibility of sex is raised. The process of getting turned on – and being seduced – is often vague and strange, involving looks and feelings rather than clear intentions. It is easy to go along and actively enjoy this process until some point when it becomes unenjoyable. We resist, but feebly. Sometimes we give in against our true wishes.

Sweden is also proud of its generous policy towards asylum-seekers and other migrants who may not instantly comprehend what Gender Equality means here, or that not explicitly violent or penetrative sex acts are understood as rape. That doesn’t mean that non-Swedes are rapists but that a large area exists where crossed signals are likely, for instance, amongst people out on the town drinking.

Discussions of rape nowadays use examples of women who are asleep, or have taken drugs or drunk too much alcohol, in order to argue that they cannot properly consent to sex. If they feel taken advantage of the next day, they may call what happened rape. The Daphne project’s Sweden researchers propose that those accused of rape ought to have to ‘prove consent’, but attempts to legislate and document seduction and desire are unlikely to succeed.

What isn’t questioned, in most public discussions, is the idea that the problem must be addressed by more laws, ever more explicit and strict. Contemporary society insists that punishment is the way to stop sexual violence, despite evidence suggesting that criminal law has little impact on sexual behaviour.

We want to think that if laws were perfectly written and police, prosecutors and judges were perfectly fair, then rapes would decrease because a) all rapists would go to jail and b) all potential rapists would be deterred from committing crime. Unfortunately, little evidence corroborates this idea. Debates crystallise in black-and-white simplifications that supposedly pit politically correct arguments against the common sense of regular folk. Subtleties and complications are buried under masses of rhetoric, and commentaries turn cynical: ‘Nothing will change’, ‘the police are pigs’, immigrants are terrorists, girls are liars. continues here

Teenagers who laughed as they raped girl they met on Facebook are jailed for six years

07:59 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

Two men who laughed as they raped a girl they met on Facebook have been locked up for six years each.

John-Claude Rugero, 19, of Ilford, and Prince Afriyie, 17, of Chigwell, were found guilty of raping the 17-year-old girl on a roundabout in Colchester, Essex.

The girl, who cannot be named, told jurors how she first chatted to the defendants on social networking sites Facebook and Bebo, two years before she was raped on a roundabout on August 12 last year.

Stephanie Farrimond, prosecuting, told the jury of seven women and five men that the teenage girl was a 'regular user' of social networking sites and used Bebo and Facebook among others.

The teenage girl gave her number to Rugero after meeting him online, Chelmsford Crown Court in Essex heard.

On August 11, 2008, Rugero, 19, contacted the girl to say he would be going to Colchester the next day to see her on her birthday.

The following day, the girl went into the town centre drinking with her sister-in-law, the court was told.

During the evening, she claims the defendants contacted her by phone but she did not arrange to meet with them.

Her sister-in-law went home and shortly afterwards the girl decided to go home herself, the jury heard.

But by chance she bumped into Rugero and his friend, who were with three other men in a car, at a roundabout as she walked home.

The men followed the girl into the underpass of the roundabout and when she tried to walk away they pulled her back into a garden in the middle of the roundabout.

Miss Farrimond said the 17-year-old defendant raped her first while Rugero held her shoulders and then 'immediately after he had finished Rugero took his turn'.

The victim told the court: 'When it was happening, my body closed down, all I could move was my eyes.

'JC didn't speak - all he did was laugh.'

Rugero, of Hainault, east London, and his co-defendant, from Chigwell, east London, each denied one count of rape but where found guilty by a jury at the trial. continues here

Girl, 15, 'raped near Burnley mosque'

16:16 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A 15-year-old girl was raped by a man after he dragged her down a Burnley back street late at night, a jury was told.

The girl, who had earlier been with friends at a youth club, was said to have been walking alone up the slope to Daneshouse Road, speaking to a friend on her mobile, when Muhaamed Ansari, 34, struck next to a mosque, Burnley Crown Court heard.

The hearing was told how the alleged victim, who told police she had had a litre and a half of vodka, was said to have arrived home just after midnight crying and shaking after the incident in February last year.

Ansari was arrested the next day when he pulled up to speak to a police officer who was driving the 15-year-old around the area to see if she could identify her alleged attacker. Ansari, of Allen Street, Burnley, denies rape.

The jury was told Ansari allegedly took the girl’s mobile phone off her, turned it off and gave it her back.

He is said to have raped her on a pathway which ran between the mosque and sheltered housing in Hebrew Road. continues here

Kirk Reid: Children's football coach guilty of stalking and sexually assaulting 25 women

22:05 by Editor · 1 Post a comment on AAWR

Kirk Reid, a children's football coach, has been convicted of stalking and sexually assaulting 25 women in London over 12 years.

Reid, 44, pounced on his victims as they made their way home from nights out in the Balham, Clapham and Tooting areas of south west London.

An independent investigation is under way into police blunders after it emerged Reid was not arrested until four years after he was made a suspect.

The college head chef, who was found guilty by a jury at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, admitted a further two indecent assaults.

He was also found guilty of raping a woman he grabbed on the street in March 2002 and an unconnected rape of a woman in a flat in 1995.

But police believe he is a serial sex predator behind at least 71 attacks on women.

Investigators suspect he could be responsible for dozens more attacks that have not been reported and have launched a helpline for potential victims.

After reporting restrictions were lifted, it can now be revealed that Reid repeatedly slipped through the police net during a series of blunders.

Officers in Wandsworth borough identified that a repeat sex attacker was on the loose in September 2002 and identified Reid as a suspect in February 2004.

But despite Reid crossing their radar on several further occasions he was not held until January 2008 when Scotland Yard detectives took over the case.

Police believe Reid preyed on at least 20 more women during the four-year gap. The missed opportunities to bring him to justice included:

:: December 2002 – A patrol speaks to Reid and submits an intelligence report after a member of the public told them he had been following a woman in Clapham.

:: January 2004 – Officers fail to act when a man dials 999 and gives the details of Reid's car in connection with a mystery attack on a woman in the street.

:: February 2004 – Reid is identified as a suspect in the ongoing sex attacks after he is stopped for tooting his horn at a woman in the street.

:: April to December 2007 – Reid's red VW Golf is checked nine times by suspicious officers as it cruises around south west London late at night.

Detectives at Scotland Yard's homicide and serious crime command took just hours to identify Reid as a prime suspect once the case was handed over in January 2008.

They ordered that his DNA be collected and as colleagues swabbed his cheek he told them: "I have nothing to worry about."

Five days later his reign of terror was brought to an end as it matched profiles on file since two indecent assaults in 2001 and a rape in 2002.

Commander Mark Simmonds, who has overall responsibility for investigating serious sex attacks, said an inquiry was conducted into police failings.

He said: "As a result of that review I have significant concerns over a number of aspects of this history of this case.

"In January I referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for them to conduct an investigation into the police response."

Mr Simmons said he was specifically concerned about the "length of time" between the identification of Reid as a suspect and his arrest.

He admitted the blunders, combined with other failings in tracing rapist taxi driver John Worboys, could seriously dent the confidence of sex attack victims in the police.

Reid will be sentenced later this year after undergoing psychiatric assessment.

He is likely to face a lengthy custodial sentence, the court heard.

Judge Shani Barnes praised the efforts of the officers who finally brought Reid to justice after years of blunders.

She said: "I now have some observations about the unfortunate period of time these matters were allowed to continue through the years.

"Most importantly, I will be having something to say about the excellent efforts of the Serious Crime Directorate under the guidance of Detective Inspector Justin Davies, who, after years of inadequate work, he and his team went back to the beginning and, through brilliant police work, finally brought this matter to the courts."

She also commended the bravery of Reid's victims.

She said: "I will be making observations on sentence about the complainants in this case and their bravery in coming back, some of whom had put this behind them many years ago."

The offences took place in three clusters along the A24 corridor, close to Clapham South, Balham and Tooting Bec Tube stations.

Reid stalked the route of the 155 night bus, a service used by many people heading home from nights out in central London that passes several Tube stations.

Oyster card records revealed he often used the bus himself but police also discovered he used his car to prowl the streets at night.

Reid waited until his victims walked into quiet and leafy side streets before grabbing them from behind.

The keen athlete used his strength and 6ft 2ins height to overpower the women and drag them onto the ground.

He violently groped inside their underwear while clamping his other hand tightly over their mouth during attacks that lasted up to three minutes.

If they fought back, screamed and shouted or if he was disturbed he would sprint away towards the nearest main road.

Many of Reid's victims had been out drinking and the majority were slight women dressed in skirts and high heels.

Some were assaulted just yards from their front doors as they were distracted by looking for their keys or as they texted friends to say they were home safely.

His first victim, who was six months pregnant, fought him off with an umbrella after he followed her into a lift at her block of flats.

One woman was raped after Reid pounced on a deserted landing leading up to her Battersea flat.

It emerged during the trial that Reid's police constable half-brother Roger played an important role in bringing him to justice.

The Met officer said Reid confessed to the crimes during a conversation they had through a glass partition in cells at a magistrates court.

He said Reid was sat in the cell with a "sheepish" and "pathetic" expression, and suddenly said: "I did it."

The police officer replied, "What all of of it?" Reid said: "Yeah, they found DNA, something about a scratch."

But the evidence was tarnished by revelations Roger Reid misled civilian custody staff to get access to his relative.

Roger Reid also told two women who claimed they were raped by Reid to contact specialist officers.

Detective Inspector Justin Davies, who led the investigation, said Reid is an extremely dangerous man.

He said: "On each occasion the focus of the indecent assault is to grab the vaginal area or to attempt digital penetration with his fingers.

"No attempt is made of any other sexual attack on the breasts or bottom or attempt to access them.

"There is very little speech and very little violence used other than to control them.

"At any point when the victim responds by screaming, or tries to fight him off, he will run away." continues here

Youths who gang-raped girl in stairwells are named

07:44 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

Seven schoolboys aged as young as 13 who joked as they took turns to rape a 14-year-old girl because she “disrespected” a gang member can be identified today for the first time.

The girl was subjected to an ordeal lasting several hours in stairwells around a housing estate in East London, parts of which were filmed on mobile phones.

O’Neil Denton, known as Hitman by the Kingshold Boys gang, now aged 16, ordered his friends to snatch the girl from the streets of Hackney after she was said to have insulted him. The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was attacked while walking home from school in April last year.

After being disturbed, Denton and some of the group took their victim to another stairwell where she was forced to commit a sex act at knifepoint. The boys rang friends during the attack, and a crowd began to gather, including Weiled Ibrahim, now aged 17, Jayden Ryan, Yusuf Raymond, and Jack Bartle, aged 16, and Alexander Vanderpuije and Cleon Brown, both 15. The final, and worst, assault took place on the ninth floor of another block of flats where the girl was raped repeatedly during a 50-minute ordeal. When she tried to fight back, junior members of the gang kicked her and smashed her head against a wall.

Nicola Merrick, for the prosecution, said: “The victim knew, of course, she was going to be raped again. She could hear Ibrahim and others saying there were other boys who would rape her badly.”

Eventually 15 boys assembled on the stairwell. “The boys threatened her throughout, intimidating her and physically assaulting her. Ibraham slapped her face and pulled her hair whilst another banged her head against the wall and someone threw a bottle of water at her.

“She broke down, turned her face to the wall and wept. The boys referred to this as crocodile tears.” In a newspaper interview the victim relived some of the ordeal. She said: “I was taken to the ninth floor of the tower block where I was thrown on to the landing. Another gang member pulled a knife out and I was forced into more sex acts with five others. I was like a zombie.

“There were so many grabbing at me, pulling my clothes off. I’d reached the point of giving up. I really thought I was going to die. Then I recognised a boy I’d known for years. I felt relieved. He was a friend. But when I asked him to help me, he said, ‘No, I’m with my boys now’. I will never forget that.”

The girl escaped only when a 14-year-old boy, a football apprentice, realised what was happening and, ignoring the threats of others, walked her out of the premises. Six of the defendants were arrested within hours, because of CCTV footage, and the rest were in custody within two days. None of the gang, who were of Caribbean, Ethiopian, Moroccan and British descent, showed any remorse during questioning or throughout the six-week trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Two others, who were convicted of rape on the basis that they “aided and abetted”, remain anonymous.

All nine, from East London, will be sentenced on Monday.

How I suffered: the victim’s story

In an impact statement the victim described how she had attempted suicide, could not leave her home alone and was always looking over her shoulder.

She said: “My whole world has been turned upside down. Trying to get back to normal has been very difficult. I used to have a lot of friends. I used to go places. I used to like shopping and the cinema and meeting new people.

“I long for all that back — instead I feel like a prisoner, having to look over my shoulder everywhere I go. Although I used to find the unexpected fun, the unexpected is now frightening and not exciting.” She suffers recurring nightmares and wakes feeling tired. The teenager said she hated herself for not screaming more or fighting off the rapists but was “frozen with fear”  continues here

Brave mum tells of gang rape terror

A mum-of-three who was the victim of a horrific rape in Belfast has spoken for the first time about her nightmare ordeal — to warn other woman of the risk of such an attack.

Mary Hodkinson is facing an agonising wait to see if she contracted Aids in the brutal incident which occurred in a house in south Belfast earlier this month.

After the horrendous sex attack, Mary was thrown out on the street bleeding, battered and semi-naked.

She also fears the sickening sex attack may have been filmed.

A 31-year-old foreign national has already appeared in court in connection with the incident.

Mary revealed to our sister paper Sunday Life that she made the choice to speak out to try and prevent another woman undergoing the same ordeal.

The 33-year-old mother, from the Village area of Belfast, is just one of a growing number of women who have been raped in the south of the city in recent months.

Revealing her ordeal unfolded after attending what she believed would be a house party, Mary said: “The only thing I am guilty of is meeting a couple of guys who were so nice and who told me they were living in my community. I walked back with them and they invited me in for a drink and told me there would be other people in the house.

“I was going back to my area and I thought I would know people at the house and would be safe.

"But once I got in, it was a different story and I think this man was waiting for me.”

Mary was forced into a bedroom where she was beaten and raped.

Admitting her world has been turned upside down since the attack, she continued: “I will never forget the evil in this man’s eyes and I can still hear his mates laughing as they kept the door locked. Once he got me into the room he turned the light off and when I tried to escape and turn it on again he started to beat me.

“He smashed my head off the radiator before kicking me in the legs.

“This man was huge and very strong. I tried to defend myself as best I could but I didn’t stand a chance. He was a monster.

“He was yelling all sorts of abuse at me and when he was finished, he started hitting me again and threw me out on the street when I didn’t even have a chance to get all my clothes on.

“They were all laughing at me as I was thrown on to the street in a distressed state and bleeding all over. The whole experience was terrifying and I couldn’t believe it when I noticed a video camera on top of a cabinet as I was being pushed out the room.  continues here

Stalin's army of rapists: The brutal war crime that Russia and Germany tried to ignore

10:54 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

Relations between Russia and Germany have not been good since Vladimir Putin's nationalist sabre-rattling this summer, but they are about to get a whole lot worse.

A new film about to be released in Germany will force both countries to re-examine part of their recent history that each would much prefer to forget. Yet it is right that the ghastly truth should finally be acknowledged.

The movie, A Woman In Berlin, is based on the diary of the German journalist Marta Hillers and depicts the horror of the Red Army's capture of the capital of the Third Reich in April and May 1945.

Above a German girl walks past Soviet troops in a scene from A Woman In Berlin

Marta was one of two million German women who were raped by soldiers of the Red Army - in her case, as in so many others, several times over.

It was a feature of Russia's 'liberation' and occupation of eastern Germany at the end of World War II that is familiar enough to historians, but which neither country cares to acknowledge took place on anything like the scale it did.

For Russia, the episode besmirches the fine name of the Red Army that had fought so hard and suffered so much in its four-year campaign against the Wehrmacht.

The courage and resilience of the ordinary Russian in what they called the Great Patriotic War is incontestable, and for every five German soldiers killed in action in the whole of World War II, four died on the Eastern Front.

Yet the knowledge that the victorious Red Army committed mass rape across Prussia and eastern Germany as they closed in on Berlin degrades its reputation, which is unacceptable to many Russians today.

When the historian Antony Beevor wrote about it in his book Berlin: The Downfall, the Russian ambassador to London, Grigory Karasin, accused him of 'an act of blasphemy', saying: 'It is a slander against the people who saved the world from Nazism.'

Similarly, living Germans do not want the events that humiliated and violated them, their mothers and grandmothers to be held up to public examination, as this movie promises to do. Right Joseph Stalin: The Soviet leader explicitly condoned rape, according to one historian

For many German women, the memory was something they sublimated and never spoke about to their husbands returning from the front.

It was the great unmentionable fact of 1945, which is coming out not just in history books, but in front of a mass, international audience. Painful memories of gross sexual abuse are being dragged out and held up to the pitiless witness of the silver screen.

Furthermore for the Germans, there is also the added sense that had it not been for Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion of the USSR, these crimes would never have been committed against German womanhood in the first place.

Three million German troops crossed the Soviet border in June 1941 in an attempt to extirpate the Russian state, and the Nazi commitment to

Total War produced atrocities so terrible that they were bound to be avenged once the Red Army reached German soil.

As so often in war, it was to be defenceless women, girls and even elderly ladies who were to pay in pain and outrage for the crimes of their male compatriots.

Many had abortions or were treated for the syphilis they caught. And as for the so-called Russenbabies - the children born out of rape - many were abandoned.

In his fine new book, World War Two: Behind Closed Doors, the historian Laurence Rees points out that although rape was officially a crime in the Red Army, in fact, Stalin explicitly condoned it as a method of rewarding the soldiers and terrorising German civilians.

Stalin said people should ' understand it if a soldier who has crossed thousands of kilometres through blood and fire and death has fun with a woman or takes some trifle'.

On another occasion, when told that Red Army soldiers sexually maltreated German refugees, he said: 'We lecture our soldiers too much; let them have their initiative.'

While Stalin condoned rape as an instrument of state military policy, his police chief Lavrenti Beria was a serial rapist.

An American diplomat, Beria's bodyguard and the Russian actress Tatiana Okunevskaya all bore witness of his methods of grabbing women off the street and shoving them into his limousine and then his bed.

'You are a long way from anywhere, so whether you scream or not does not matter,' Beria would tell the women when he got them back to his dacha. 'You are in my power now. So think about that and behave accordingly.'

More than 100 school-aged girls and young women were drugged and raped by the man who ran the NKVD, the feared forerunner to the KGB.

'All of which means, of course, that if reports of Red Army soldiers raping women in eastern Europe were sent to the NKVD in Moscow, they finally reached the desk of a rapist himself,' says Rees.

The rape of Berlin's female population - anyone between the ages of 13 and 70 was in danger - was cruelly vicious.

In one heart-breaking incident, a Berlin lawyer, who had somehow protected his Jewish wife from persecution throughout the Nazi period, was shot trying to protect her from rape by Red Army soldiers. As he lay dying of his wounds, he saw his wife being gang-raped.

'They do not speak a word of Russian, but that makes it easier,' one Red Army soldier wrote in a letter home in February 1945. 'You don't have to persuade them. You just point a revolver and tell them to lie down. Then you do your stuff and go away.'

It was unusual for Red Army soldiers to admit to rape in letters home, which is why this new German film is likely to shock Russian patriotic sensibilities.

Nor did the Germany's surrender calm the Russians' behaviour, at least in the short term.

'Weeks before you entered this house, its tenants were living in constant fright and fear,' the rich German publisher Hans-Dietrich Muller Grote wrote to President Truman about the place he stayed in during the Potsdam conference of July 1945.

'By day and by night, plundering Russian soldiers went in and out, raping my sisters before their own parents and children, beating up my old parents. All furniture, wardrobes and trunks were smashed with bayonets and rifle butts, their contents soiled and destroyed in an indescribable manner.'

Above:Red Army troops in procession in Berlin, Germany. Their atrocities against the women were carried out in a sickeningly systematic manner (File Photo)

The Red Army's atrocities against women in Dresden in the spring of 1945, a city that had already suffered heavily from Allied bombing, were carried out in a sickeningly systematic manner.

'In the house next to ours, Soviet troops went in and pulled the women on to the street, had their mattresses pulled out and raped the women,' recalled one inhabitant, John Noble.

'The men had to watch, and then the men were shot. Right at the end of the street, a woman was tied to a wagon wheel and terribly misused.

'Of course, you had the feeling that you wanted to stop it, but there was no possibility to do that.' Women going to and from work past Red Army pickets were routinely raped.

The historian Chris Bellamy believes that although there are no surviving written records to prove it, 'the hideous spectre of multiple rape was not only condoned, but, we can be pretty sure, legally sanctioned by the political officers speaking for the Soviet government'.

Nor is it true that rape was mainly carried out by reserve units following behind the front-line troops.

The Russian war correspondent Vassily Grossman was embedded with the elite front-line Eighth Guards Army which committed rape, as did at least one of his own war correspondent colleagues.

As well as the estimated two million rapes in Germany, there were between 70,000 and 100,000 in Vienna and anywhere from 50,000 to 200,000 in Hungary, as well as thousands in Romania and Bulgaria, which had been pro-Nazi, but also in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, which had not been.

Indeed, as Beevor points out, the Red Army even raped Russian women who had been liberated from concentration camps, emaciated and wearing their prison uniform.

Overall, however, Russian soldiers tended to prefer plumper and better-fed women, and one diarist recorded the satisfaction felt by some Berlin women that these tended to be the wives of Nazi Party functionaries.

Vodka played a role, of course, but the worst of the behaviour was fuelled by sheer hatred and aggression, as well as a cold-hearted sense of deterrence for the future.

'It's absolutely clear that if we don't really scare them now, there will be no way of avoiding another war in future,' one Red Army soldier wrote at the time.

In a recently published book by the Professor of Modern History at Cambridge, Richard Evans, a young Russian officer is quoted recalling how when his unit overtook a column of fleeing German refugees: 'Women, mothers and their children lie to the right and left along the route, and in front of each of them stands a raucous armada of men with their trousers down.

The women, who are bleeding or losing consciousness, get shoved to one side, and our men shoot the ones who try to save their children.'

A group of 'grinning' officers ensured that 'every soldier without exception would take part'.

Evans records: 'Rape was often accompanied by torture and mutilation and frequently ends in the victim being shot or bludgeoned to death. The raging violence was undiscriminating.'

The insistence on the men watching the rapes was deliberate policy, intended 'to underline the humiliation'.

Underlying all this foul inhumanity was the way the German Army and its allies had behaved during its invasion of Russia.

That was clearly not the only explanation - it doesn't explain why the Red Army raped Poles, Czechs and Yugoslavs and even Russian women, for example - for that one has to delve deep into the darkest recesses of the male psyche.

Yet the four years of life-and-death conflict did brutalise the Soviet peasant-soldier and taught him to behave like a beast against the women of his enemies once he was given the chance. The Soviet-German war lasted 1,418 days without respite, and for sheer horror there is nothing to equal it in the long and monstrous annals of human warfare.

'It eliminated pity, abandoned any constraint, mocked even a semblance of legality,' wrote its foremost historian Professor John Erickson. The Germans drew up plans to exterminate or deport no fewer than 50 million Slav untermensch (subhumans) and as soon as they had attacked they instituted procedures for achieving this. In the end, no fewer than 27 million citizens lost their lives.

The Geneva Conventions were ripped up, as it was stated that no German soldier would be prosecuted for any 'ideologically motivated' murder of civilians.

Hitler's Vernichtungskampf (war of annihilation) against the Slavs merged into his Rassenkampf (war of racial extermination) against the Jews and Communists to create a Continent-wide slaughter.

Behind the advancing Wehrmacht, which won victory after victory in the first six months, were a series of Einsatzgruppen (action squads), whose 'special task' it was to liquidate Jews, Communists, partisans, PoWs, the disabled and anyone else thought to be 'enemies of the Reich'.

In forests across eastern and southern Russia, Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states, the populations of villages and towns were escorted to places of execution, ordered to dig their own shallow graves and then shot.

An estimated 1.5million innocent human beings are believed to have perished in this way. Yet, as Erickson puts it: 'Machine-guns and rudimentary gas vans could not cope with the demands imposed by mass extermination, prompting the search for a capacious gas chamber the like of Auschwitz.'

The 'scorched earth' policy adopted by the Wehrmacht led to millions more dying, and during the 900-day siege of Leningrad human flesh was semi-openly sold in the street. Small wonder that when 'Ivan' had his chance for revenge, he was going to take it in as gross and bestial a manner as possible.

The fact that the women of Germany were largely innocents, swept up in the horror rather than being responsible for it, meant nothing to an army that had lost 13.5 million casualties at the Germans' hands.

And what of the Allied advance in the West across Germany? It was not unknown for cases of rape to be reported, but they were considered a serious offence and punished accordingly.

The fact that today Germany is a peaceful democracy, indeed, in many ways a model country, can in large part be put down to the Red Army's monstrous invasion, but also to the ruthless bombing of its cities and towns by the British and U.S. air forces from 1941 to 1945. continues here

Murdered teenager Hannah Foster made despairing 999 call after abduction

08:12 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A kidnapped teenage girl dialled 999 in an attempt to escape from her attacker but was cut off by the emergency services. She was then raped and strangled, a jury heard yesterday.

After being bundled into a van, Hannah Foster, 17, an A-level student who wanted to become a doctor, dialled the number in the hope that the operator would hear her conversation with her abductor. But because the operator could not hear what was being said, the system automatically disconnected her.

Hannah’s parents, Trevor, 57, an auditor for British Gas, and Hilary, 51, a former nurse, and her sister, Sarah, 20, were in Winchester Crown Court as Nicholas Haggan, QC, opened the prosecution case in what he said would be a distressing trial.

Mr Haggan said that DNA evidence would help to prove that Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, 40, a sandwich delivery driver, murdered Hannah. “He snatched her from the street. He drove off with her in his van. He found somewhere quiet and he raped her. He then strangled her and dumped her body,” Mr Haggan said. “When he thought he might get caught, he fled to India.”

Mr Haggan said that Hannah disappeared in March 2003 while walking home from a bus stop after a Friday night out with friends.

“At 11pm that evening, Hannah managed to use her mobile phone to contact the emergency services,” he said. “She was unable to speak to the operator. It’s quite obvious from the recording that she was in a moving vehicle. In that vehicle with her was a man, and that man was speaking to her in a heavily accented voice.

“Hannah probably thought that the operator would listen to the conversation and work out that she was being held against her will.”

She would not have known that there was a system to prevent accidentally dialled emergency calls from blocking up the system, he added.

Experts who analysed the recording were able to make out Hannah pretending her name was Sarah and the man saying something like: “Hold your head down, please.”

Hannah’s body was discovered two days later by a 14-year-old boy in Allington Lane, West End, near Southampton. It was lying among brambles about 15ft from the road. A postmortem examination showed that she had been strangled. Although she was fully dressed, her clothing was described as “dishevelled”. She had scratches on her legs, and there were traces of semen.

It is claimed that on the same day Mr Kohli was in tears as he told a friend that he needed to go to India to see his ill mother. The friend noticed a red mark under the man’s eye, which Mr Kohli is said to have claimed he got in a fight with two men. Despite Mr Kohli threatening to kill himself if his friend did not lend him money for the flight, the friend refused, the prosecution said.

The next day, Hannah’s handbag and phone were found at a recycling centre in Southsea, Portsmouth. Mr Kohli flew to India from Heathrow the following day.

A few days later, Mr Kohli’s supervisor, James Dennis, saw a recording of theCrimewatchprogramme that featured an appeal about Hannah’s murder, and contacted police. Mr Kohli’s sandwich delivery van was seized and semen stains and traces of Hannah’s blood were discovered inside, Mr Haggan said.

CCTV and Hannah’s telephone records were said to place the two together at the time of the murder.

Mr Kohli was extradited to Britain in July last year, and a DNA sample from him matched the semen found at the crime scene, Mr Haggan said. continues here

Teenage girl 'gang raped and covered in burning caustic soda'

08:00 by Editor · 0 Post a comment on AAWR

A teenager with learning difficulties was gang raped by up to ten youths who then showered her 'head to toe' with burning caustic soda, a court heard today.

The attackers left the girl 'naked, screaming, crying and in a desperate state' as they ran away laughing, it was alleged.

They had picked on the shy 16-year-old because they claimed she was a 'dirty ho who was asking for it', Wood Green Crown Court in North London heard.

The girl was left traumatised and severely disfigured by the attack.

Prosecutor Rosina Cottage said she may have been raped because she had recently slept with three men known to the gang.

'She was shy and insecure and with learning difficulties and thought that she would be liked by these boys if she had sex with them.

'Of course, the world can be an old-fashioned place and they did not like her.

'They thought she was, to use the words of a number of these defendants, ''dirty''.'

On January 9 this year Mark Hendricks, one of the men she had previously slept with, allegedly lured her to a unoccupied house in Tottenham, North London, where the other youths were waiting.

Miss Cottage said: 'She had no idea what was in store for her.

'They raped her ..., and when they had enough of her, and she dared to say no, her body was burned from head to toe with caustic soda.

'She was naked and unprotected, and as she screamed they laughed and ran away.'

As the alleged attackers fled, a neighbour heard screams and banging coming from the house.

'When she went in there was a naked woman at the top of the stairs. She was screaming constantly for help. She said that she had been raped.'

A harrowing 999 call made by the neighbour was played to the court in which the girl's howling screams could be heard in the background.

At hospital she was sprayed with water jets to clear the caustic soda from her.

But her injuries were so bad that she was unable to talk for over a month and remained in hospital for several weeks.

In all, half her body was burned, leaving her permanently disfigured. She has been operated on several times and still requires further surgery.

The court heard that immediately after the rape some of the gang gathered at a nearby friend's house where a witness described how they were 'having a laugh, and then started to talk about some madness and being chased down the road'.

When one of the victim's friends telephoned defendant Bradley Daley-Smith, who she suspected of being involved in the attack, he told her that 'she was a ho and she deserved it'.

He added that it was not rape and the boys 'were not going to prison for this'.

Daley-Smith, 21, Bruno Abrantes, 24, Jason Brew, 18, Miguel Almedia, 22, Ismail Opeyemi, 20, Hector Muaimba, 20, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named, all deny two charges of rape and one of grievous bodily harm.  continues here
